Mairi from Manchester,
I'm 35 and have just come
home from the orthodontist having had my bottom ceramic
brace put on. I feel as though my mouth is full of stuff and
that my bottom lip is sticking out loads over the brackets
but I seem to look ok in the mirror.
The wax helps a lot. It's going
to be hard giving up blackcurrant squash - I live on that stuff!
I'm a modern languages teacher and decided to wait until the
start of the summer holidays before getting my braces fitted -
and I'm very glad I did as I'm not sure how much oral language
modeling I could do if I had to work tomorrow...
I have always wanted to get my
bottom teeth straightened but thought it was too late, being an
adult, until I met a parent of one of my pupils at parents'
evening who had braces and I thought 'Wow! - adults can do it
too....?' And that was just a few months ago. The worst thing is
going to be having the palatal expander as I'm told that really
will affect my speech, but I do have four weeks to get used to
it before going back to work. Short term pain, long term gain! I
didn't expect it to be easy, and I don't think it will be, but
this website has been a real find and it's great to know I'm not
going through this on my own.
