Surgery isn't necessarily required. It all depends on how much space is available to get the arch corrected. I had a 10mm overjet, 2 premolar extractions, no surgery and the ortho was able to reduce my overjet to 3mm.

I had an edible arrangement delivered to my ortho's office the day of my debanding. When I went back that afternoon to pick up my Essix retainer, all of the assistants hugged me. They particularly liked the chocolate dipped strawberries (who doesn't).

Hi, Pickle! Nice to have you back on the boards. I was here too when you made the tough decision to stop treatment early. So sorry to hear things have reverted back to their original positions. If Invisalign isn't an option, what about clear ceramic brackets? I remember when Tom Cruise had his brace...

DD13 got her upper braces last month. She has standard stainless brackets on most of her teeth, but has Damon brackets on a couple of molars that need to be tweeked more than the rest of her teeth. I got my ceramic uppers and lowers debanded in May. The regular stainless and the Damon brackets are s...

I have one of each; upper hawley, lower essix for nighttime and lower fixed. I'm not sure how it would be getting used to a lower hawley, but I really prefer my hawley for retention. Of course my lower essix is practically invisible, but I don't feel like it's substantial enough to prevent small mov...

I was debanded in May and have an upper hawley, a lower fixed and a lower essix. My lower fixed causes absolutely no speech problems. I hardly even remember that it's there, except that food, especially pasta and salad get caught in it every now and then.

Congrats on beginning the end of your journey, Betty Bat. I think you'll love it when you're finished restoring your implants. I had my molar implant placed in mid-April and just got the final crown placed last week. It is so nice to have a full set of teeth to chew with again! Good luck!!!

I'm not a smoker, but I can tell you that the clear ligs my ortho used with my ceramic (3M Clarity) brackets stained within about 5 weeks after each adjustment. I think the worst offenders for me were mustard, tea and tomato sauce. I've heard curry is a big no-no too. My adjustments were usually eve...

I had a lower implant placed in April prior to my debanding in early May. My ortho did not have to remove my wire or any brackets for the surgeon to place the implant. The wire made no difference to the surgeon. It just made keeping the implant area clean a little more difficult during the healing p...

DD13 started Phase I treatment with RPE when she was 8. She only had the palate expander in place for one year (only 6 months active treatment) and has been seeing the ortho every 6 - 8 months for follow-up since then. No charge for the follow-ups. Her Phase I treatment was $1,100.00.

My payments were structured so that my account was paid in full 3 months before my expected completion date. But, since tx went 6 months past, I enjoyed 9 months of no payments. Didn't have to pay any extra for the additional 6 months' tx.

Since I was 40+ and had ceramic brackets, I was never brave enough to ask for colored ligs. I asked for blue acrylic for my hawley. If I hadn't made a point of asking, I would have gotten standard pink. Love my blue! My daughter's not in braces yet, but she's already said she wants a purple retainer...

I agree with Lisa65 - what a bummer! I'm having the same type of issue with a molar that is sensitive every once in a while and I'm thinking of getting it crowned. After hearing your result - maybe not. Root canals aren't as dreadful as some say. I've had 2 with no problems afterward. I've had frien...

Your smile looks great!!! I think with just a little bit of shaping, you would be much happier with your lower arch. My lower arch isn't perfect because of uneven teeth wear and I asked my ortho about it before debanding. He assured me that after he did some shaping, my lower arch would look better....
