REALLY ????

I thought that flossing would be harder with linguals because on the top you can't see if you're under the wire or not.

Am I missing something? I was worrying about this to be honest

You definitely won't need them if you already have gaps between your back molars, so you may be in luck. And if you even have a slight gap they will be super easy and painless to put in! Once in they don't hurt a bit. My ortho described it has having food stuck between your teeth, but I didn't even notice them once it was in (at least on the side that worked).
I had another ortho visit on Thursday. Found out some really bad news. I have to have MORE spacers put in, ARGHHH!!!! I did wonder why the first lot weren't put in the gap between my very last teeth, but instead between the 2nd and 3rd back teeth. About 2 weeks from now. I'm super worried. My ortho says that it isn't normally as bad the second time around...but still! I'm not going to be as stoic this time though. If it's hurting lots, I'll just tell them to give up (like they had to on the one side anyway - not cos I made them stop due to pain, purely because it wasn't possible to get the ring on, as I described above). Hmmm. We'll see how it goes. Eek!

Nope flossing the ceramics is much harder! Linguals are just like normal flossing - I think it's because the wire is so high up relative to the gum line. It's easy!

Okay so I had the 2nd lot of spacers put in today - these ones went in between my last and 2nd last molars on my bottom teeth. And guess what? No pain at all! The entire process took under a minute for both sides. Guess I must have a bigger gap between my very last molars than between my 2nd and 3rd last ones. So don't worry everyone, it's fine! And now they're in I can't notice they're there at all We'll see how it goes getting the 2nd lot of molar rings put on next week...

Well, a lot has sure changed in 11 months! My teeth are SUPER straight, but a few new issues have now cropped up, and I am considering orthognathic surgery How is everyone else going in their braces journeys??? I'd love to hear from you.

What's wrong, why are you feeling you need surgery??

My bottom teeth (ceramics) have moved wonders. I had 2 extractions & those gaps are nearly closed now. I had 2 teeth sitting further back than the front 2 & now they are all sitting straight & in line with each other.

My top teeth (linguals) are straight now but got my huge extraction gaps to close which I guess is going to take so long. Had them on a year December.

Got a stupid wire cutting my tongue too as my ortho left the wire far too long

Can't keep going in to have it cut. Adjustment in just over 2 weeks & will be so thankful when his cut it

Hi LuLu, thanks for posting back, its good to 'talk' to someone who is at a similar stage in their braces journey Are you happy with where things are at? Do you know how much longer you have to go? Are you wearing elastics yet?
Well, here's a quick summary of why I'm considering surgery:
-I started with a 3mm overjet, which has since increased to 10mm. This has resulted in, when I smile, my bottom teeth now being totally invisible, and my top teeth resting on my lower lip (you can read more about why this has happened at viewtopic.php?f=13&t=39308)
-Because of this, I now cannot bite anything. Everything has to be cut up into small pieces, even sandwiches
-Chewing is now difficult too (pre-braces, biting and chewing anything was not a problem!), as I only have about 2 teeth that are occluding at present - my very back molar on the left, and a premolar somewhere on my right. My back left lower molar lost its ring a while back, and the orthodontist doesn't intend to replace it for another few months, meanwhile it is sticking up more and more as time goes by and affecting the occlusion of all other teeth on my left hand side.
-I consulted with a surgeon about 2 weeks ago, who said that these things are unlikely to be improved just with braces, and that even if they are, my teeth are likely to bend back into ugly positions within a few years of being removed as my bite is not good. (He also said I should have my wisdom teeth out ASAP as them erupting post-braces may cause the same problem)
-He also advised I would have to have outer braces pre-surgery, as post-surgery the elastics would have to go from outer (upper) to outer (lower) rather than inner (upper) to outer (lower) which may flare my upper teeth outwards - so much for paying TWICE as much to get lingual braces hey!
So there you have it...I'm seeing my ortho for a chat on Thursday about where to go from here! Bit depressed at the moment. Looks like braces would have to be on for 6-12 months post-surgery, which means there is NO chance the initial 2 year time estimate is going to be correct (which would mean I'd be getting them off in ~8 months).

Haha I'm in the same boat. 26 years old, but still look like a kid. I'm really trying to hide everything I can since I look young enough as it is. I certainly hope that Charleston, WV has more reasonable prices. Wow 22k?!?!
