I think the very nature of getting braces as an adult causes a lot of angst, as reflected in many of the posts here. Self doubt, second-guessing, free floating fears are all part of the charm of the forum.
But what do you like about yourself? What are you proudest of? What makes you, well, you?
I'll start.
On the vanity side, I am happy that I have most of my hair and that I inherited my Mother's skin which takes a couple of decades off my appearance. People are generally shocked when they learn my actual age.
Professionally, I have strong leadership skills and have successfully led a number of teams on tasks or missions that were extremely difficult. I do well in crises. I feel that I have a lot of compassion, but can be extremely impatient with those who do not pull their weight at work.

Your turn! :D

That's awesome. People think I'm younger too, especially with the braces. I got mistaken for a sixth-grader last week, lol. Physically I was blessed with nice legs, even though I'm short. And nice hair too.
I like that I'm a very logical, grounded person. I feel very balanced most of the time and I enjoy learning and growing. I'm also very proud of my service in the Navy (2000-2005).

I've been blessed with a head full of hair - thick and mostly straight. I used to hate it, but found be perfect hairstyle and everyone always compliments me on my hair. Also, I have a flat stomach and small waistline (genetics), so it keeps me from feeling more self conscious now that I have metal braces, haha!!

Also like that I'm really driven/motivated to work hard towards my future career/professional goals. :]

I have very nice legs (even if they are somewhat short!) and I have beautiful black hair with just a touch of grey in it.
I used to be very gregarious but have become more shy over the years. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. It just is. I don't mind it.

One of the things I like most about myself is that I am not really all that concerned about what other people think. This has come in quite handy with the braces thing, but it applies to many other areas of my life as well- I have done a lot of things that many would say that I am "too old" for-went to college at 40, started Martial arts at 44 (currently hold a 2nd degree black belt, working on 3rd), learned to scuba dive at 46, braces at 50- Bring it on! I love life and feel like it was meant to be enjoyed!

I like my hair, its long and to my waist; I have a small waist and I am tall. I also think I have a nice collar bone (random, I know, lmao)

I like that I have a unique ability to make friends with literally anyone and to make people laugh.

I like that trying to think of the things I like about myself makes me realize how lucky I am that I can type tirelessly, ceaselessly. I like that I finally have enough awareness of social norms that I realize I should not type 100 things I like about myself in response to this question. Just because I like the number 100 doesn't mean everyone wants to read 100 things I like about myself. I like that I finally realize that. I like that I'm starting to get better at relating to other human beings. I've always been happy in my own world, but I want to join the world everyone else lives in. I'm figuring out slowly how to do that. Braces is a great first step. They make me smile at everyone! And people keep smiling back.

Aaaah. This is a nice thread. It reminds me of a recent Jenna Marbles YouTube video "Thing's I'm Awesome At"! We should celebrate our awesomeness more often :)

Physically... I have nice eyes. I get told I do by a lot of people. They are a cool murky grey colour! I also have a typically feminine hourglass figure. I'm quite lucky in that respect.
As a person... I'm multi-faceted talent-wise thanks to my love of trying new things. I love to learn and explore.

I really like my hopeful heart...When tough things happen, I just stick it out and keep on going. I've dealt with some hard things in life and I am so thankful for my survivor attitude.

I also like my big nose and my hair (dreadlocks lol) . My nose just sits so well on my face and gives me a unique look

It's so hard to keep hoping sometimes. I wish I could be like that.

Me, too. After my husband died about 7 years ago I became a much more pessimistic person, prone to anxiety issues.

Getting braces has actually been a bright spot for me. When I'm down I come here and hang out with my buds. LOL

@Dee17 and @Isthistaken, it's not easy, especially when people can be so ummm...interesting? However, i think all of the challenges we go through in life just makes us better prepared and all the more appreciative when things are "ok".

Right now, I'm in a good period in my life and it's not because I'm super rich or anything major like that. I just feel like I'm making small positive steps and i've been gifted with things like finally being able to afford braces. Sometimes that small progress is all you can ask for, small steps towards the end of the road just as long as you're moving. I watch the Kardashians sometimes and it's like all they do is sit around and complain even though they grew up in a life of privilege/beautiful/etc....I guess if they were normal people they'd slit their wrists lol.

Amazingly I can probably think of more things I like than dislike. I didn't realize that until now. I dislike my weight but there are so many things I like! Thick curly hair, straight white teeth (braces are tmj phase 2 to errupt my molars), good skin, freckles, big blue eyes, my skills as a mom, the ability to not strangle my husband , I run my own business, I could go on but I feel silly.

I hope everyone else felt this way. I think most of the time we all focus on the one or two things we don't like and forget all the good things

Yes. it is extremely important to remember (and be grateful for) all the good things in your life. I am always grateful for everything that has happened to me in my life -- both the good and the bad -- because all those experiences are what has shaped me into the person I am today. Despite everything, I like myself pretty much. Certainly much more than I did about 30 years ago.
