At my fourth adjustment yesterday, I had a new powerchain fitted spanning just my central and right lateral incisors. Examining it following my visit, I see that it is twisted between the centrals. Does anyone know why this is done? I previously had a powerchain just on my central incisors closing the IPR gap between them. That chain over- corrected, not only closing the gap but also causing my centrals to start to cross. Would a twisted chain somehow resolve this over-correction?

Sorry hun - not quite sure why they would do that. I am curious though so please reply once you speak with the ortho.

You sure it was intentional?

I mean it could either be a mistake or it could be to cause more tension on the teeth to be pulled? thats all i got...

This is just a guess...

I have had twists in mine in the past also, I currently have a power chain going over my extraction gaps.

On one side it's twisted, on the other it's not to account for the different gap sizes. I think the power can be adjusted by twisting as it's obviously under more tension.

Just a guess really but it would make sense.

I think I can answer this. It's not twisted. It's a 3-chain power chain, but only the outside 2 loops are on those adjacent teeth. I recently had this done. His reasoning is he wanted light pull. So by using a longer segment it effectivly lessons it's strength.
