Is orthosil available @ dentakit?
mstikl click on DentaKit.com (the link is in the header of on all AW pages) and check out the wax options. I think you'll find Lynn sells orthosil.

It's a great site ... and most (if not all) products have been tested by adults with braces. It was great that Lynn realised there was this massive gap in the market ... for us wonderful people ... the adults of the world! :jump:  :jump:

Btw, this discussion does raise one point: in my personal experience, not all dental waxes are created equal. I noticed when using them myself that some brands tended to be more "flaky" and others (as with some people's experiences with the Wax Dots) would tend to be too soft.

I so agree with this! When I first got my braces on, I had the wax my ortho gave me (Ortho-Sil) and then I went to a drug store and purchased various kinds of waxes - the dots included. I find that Ortho-Sil is the best. It's a lot smoother, it's less noticeable when you're using it, and it isn't a pain to get out of the package.

Wouldn't it be cool if each OrthoSil packet came with a tiny mirror...

Ortho-sil is actually different than wax - wax is just that, whereas Ortho-sil is a silicone polymer instead. Personally it was what I preferred, but it's harder to find in the shops (I never did, so I scrounged all my supply at the ortho; obviously Lynn does sell it at Dentakit though )

Mer, like you, I found it easy to just grab a handful at the Ortho's office. I am fully stocked for any wax emergency for atleast half of my treatment. I think I have a pack of orthosil in each purse I have, yet I end up using wax to cover the wire ends all the time so yay for me! Or maybe not yay for me since I need to cover up the wire ends so often.

I'll always carry Ortho-Sil at DentaKit.com. I also carry BraceGard by Infalab (part of their Brace Relief Pocket Kit). The BraceGard strips are thicker.

Anyway, dental silicone (OrthoSil and similar products) is great but your brackets must be TOTALLY DRY before you apply it, or you will have trouble getting it to stick. I find that customers either love it or hate it. I think it depends on how dry you can make your brackets, and how patient you are to get the hang of using it. Because it can be tricky, I recommend that people buy a small amount of it before investing in a large case.

I don't know why it's not sold in stores, but I've never seen it. Although, some enterprising readers here have tried silicone earplugs. I don't know if that silicone is the same or if it's considered OK for dental purposes (in case you swallow it, etc).

When all else fails, there's always regular wax.

Wax dots suck............. I bought them last night, and they were hard to get out of the pack, and they are a pain because they really are not big enough. I went back out and got some of the GUM brand wax......and it works great. My ortho only gave me a small amount and considering I don't go back for 12 weeks, I had to have more.

The Wax Dots were discontinued last year by the manufacturer and are no longer being made. If you have them or see them in a store, they are "old merchandise" and I would advise you not to use them! Please note that the original date of the first post in this thread is 4 years old. For that reason, this topic will now be locked.
