Hi,
looking for some reasurance! I had my top demon full braces fitted 3 days ago. Not to bad all in all. I find the mornings the worst, I have a super dry mouth and want to rip them out! Does the feeling of wanting to rip them out go? or is it a case of mind over matter?

I am real worried about going to have my bottom once fitted because they told me they will be using elastics!!! WT?? I wasnt told this before and I am really anxious. I am 35. The bands will be on top k9s going back somewhere. Why did they not tell me this? Will there be more suprises? Are there any questions I need to ask before I go further. They also mention turbos, how long will it take me to get my speech correct?

I am happy I am getting this done, I have always wanted to do this but it;s a real big commitment and glad I have found this forum.

Thanks for your adivce!!

Hi SSophie!!

Welcome to the brace world and congrats on starting your journey!! I had my brackets and spacers but on yesterday!! The spacers are not causing any pain as of yet. They just get in my way of CHEWING!! I know exactly how you feel with waking up with a dry mouth because I am the same way. I also have excessive dry lips now and have to keep my chapstick in my pocket. I hope you are not in too much pain and please keep us updated on your progress.

Ohhh I remember this feeling very very well. It does go, well it did with me. I often felt like I wanted to rip them out, some days the frustration would almost bring me to tears, but it did eventually wear off and I got completely used to them. Most of the time I forget I even have braces until it comes to brushing and flossing. I think I may even miss them when they are gone!

My Ortho told me everything that I could possibly have during my treatment during my consultation. He mentioned elastics and headgear (I know, how old fashioned). He said that I might need both and wanted to let me know everything before I went ahead. I did have elastics but no headgear. I also ended up with a quad helix but for some reason I cannot remember him mentioning that to me at the start... which is a bummer because it was horrible.

I cannot comment on the bite turbos, but maybe you could suggest molar build ups instead? I'm assuming you need the turbos because your upper teeth would bite down on the lower braces? If so, I had the exact same thing so had to get molar build ups and they did not interfere with my speech at all.

It's hard to take it all in at first and can be a bit much but you will soon get used to everything and it will all become normal.
