Good luck!!! :)

Don't worry about speaking, hopefully that's not an issue. I went right into work today and it took a bit for people to notice that I even had braces or that anything was different!

Grillz,
Grillz,

I just got my braces put on about a week and a half ago now. I am 54 years old so would love to be your buddy to follow thru this journey with you. I have ceramic on upper and lowers and I have to get two teeth pulled this coming Thursday. I'm really nervous about that. Our insurance wont pay for me to be put under and I'm actually quite scared to death to be awake!

Oh, I wanted to tell you that the week before my braces, I had spacers put on and those caused more sensitivity to my teeth than the braces do. I caught a cold the day before I went in to get my braces and I caught the flu the evening I had them put on so it was not a fun week for me...which maybe was good cuz I was so miserable from the flu that I really didnt notice any pain from the braces. :? I know my teeth were pretty sensitive tho when it came time to eat and I was eating soups every day for awhile...then graduated up to yogurt, ice cream bars and now I can pretty much eat most anything...unless it's sticky or gooey. I also used lots of wax for the first few days and didnt eat much at all...

Well it's only been almost 2 weeks but I guess after I get my two uppers pulled things will be painful probably. I am to go to the ortho a week after they pull them and get new wires. They put everything on except they skipped the two uppers that are to be pulled. It is the fourth tooth in from the front...counting the front, on each side that is to be pulled. I'm really worried the space wont fill in or that a gap will be there but, my ortho assures me it wont. I have crowding on the top....bottom seems fine but the ortho said he puts braces on the bottom to help anchor the top??

I didnt get two consults before picking an ortho...I went on the advice/referral of my dentist...hope this guy knows what he's doing! I hope you're feeling better by now....

sjeanine! yes, let's be braces buddies! i'll reassure you about the teeth that are going to be pulled as far as the space filling in. my youngest daughter had braces and they pulled either 2 or 4 teeth, can't remember any more....and i had the same worries, but everything filled in great and her teeth look great! and they were so crowded and twisted before.....so they really do know what they are doing, the ortho's...i didn't get a second consult either....i was so thrilled that i didn't need any jaw surgery that i was ecstatic and ready to proceed. i trust my dentist alot, he is a very smart, nice fellow and has been in practice for a long time. so anyone he recommends that goes very far w/ me.

i actually wasn't able to get the senior ortho he recommended but i got the new partner in his practice. i wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do....but i had concerns that the older guy would be retiring soon.....and he had hand picked the new guy so i felt he must be good.

as far as the extraction as being put to sleep.....myself i do not like to be put to sleep, it freaks me out.....so i prefer staying awake but everyone is different. if you need to be put asleep then do it. our insurance didn't cover my older daughter being put asleep for her wisdom teeth extraction but that's what she wanted so we did it. i don't think it's too horribly exspensive. not when you look at the price of the braces....which my insurance doesn't cover for me, or for my oldest daughter who now needs them....because we are both over 18.....that sucks. but they only paid 1000 anyway....which really isn't that much. not compared to 4-6 or 7 K.....which is what it ends up being.

so sorry to hear you had the cold and then the flu!! major bummer :FeelSick:
i still am not well and don't sleep through the night cuz i can't breathe that well. but i'm slowly starting to feel alittle bit better. no flu....not yet anyway.

my orth sent me a confirmation for my appointment on monday!! i hope hope hope the office won't be closed because of the weather.....fingers crossed!!

Hey grillz

That sucks!!!! I am so sorry your appointment was canceled. :-+ All the anxiety and anticipation is the worst part of the whole process.

I hope you can get in ASAP. Maybe it will only be a couple days or maybe have another day off that they will work instead.

Better to be safe then have to drive on bad roads.

Elle

Grillz,

So sorry about your delay/cancellation. I know how frustrating that can be when you're all ready and waiting anyway. I'm supposed to be getting two teeth pulled this coming Thursday and just wanting to hurry and get it over with so I know I'd be really upset if it gets canceled. Hopefully you'll hear something soon. I'd prob call them first thing tomorrow if I were you.
