I know how you feel. Some weeks are just like that. It is great that we can vent/commiserate with the people on this board and they understand.

I have had a lot of sliding wires at times. Some weeks I was literally driving to the ortho 2-3 times in one week... and they are closed on Fridays. They finally showed me how to move them back myself. Either they were tired of seeing me or they felt bad for my 45 minute drive each way...I'm not sure which.

They actually gave up on a bracket holding on to my crowned molar. The thing that worried me most on that one was that the bracket just "disappeared" and wasn't there when I went to put my elastics on one night. Wonder what happened to it???? I hope you've been able to keep track of yours.

Wishing you well,
TMJJill

Thanks TMJJill for posting your experiences. You helped put things in perspective for me. I know it wasnt anyones fault, I doubt my ortho assist. wanted to see me the next day waiting for him with my upset face and he has lots of patients so I guess this happens sometimes. Hey I am glad now that I didnt accidentally 'eat' the bracket (that was tooo funny!! well for me...) and at least my drive to my ortho is 15 mins each way. But i was just mad to have to go twice in one week.

Thanks kellyb for your kind words too!

So finally he changed the bracket to make sure it wouldnt pop out again, and also he left only one wire on the tooth so it wouldnt put too much force. We'll see what happens in 2 weeks for my next visit.

Congratulations Lau. Your teeth are looking great already. Do you think you will get a reduction to your 18 month estimate?

Jem

Hey Jem- long time, how is your journey going?

Regarding my 18 month sentence, it appears it will be closer to 12 months BUT i've been already experiencing the setbacks (nothing major fortunately) that everyone mentions. So i am taking the new revised estimate with a pinch of salt BUT hoping that it is 12 months, you know?

Also i am not going for a perfect smile, because i didnt want to pull any teeth to center my midline- but hope to have a straighter set of teeth soon.

Keep in touch!

here's my 6 month photo update.
Comment: with my teeth now being aligned my crooked smile is more apparent. I will ask my ortho his next plans. he mentioned something last time that i need to wait until the end of the treatment when the square archwire will rotate the teeth- so i need to put all my trust in their hands and wait

Hello Lau,

Looking even better!

I am over 3 months in now and had my second adjustment last week. I had brackets added to my premolars but have gone back to a 0.014 wire. I am, however, seeing some progress at long last-the upper central which was biting on top of my bottom teeth is now biting in front of them. It seemed to happen overnight.Movement of this tooth was my main reason for getting my brace, so I am really pleased. The adjoining teeth still need to be unscrambled and there has been no progress with the twisted canine, which is why the new brackets were added to my premolars. I think I might go over my 6-9 month estimate, but I am happy just to be seeing some progress.

Best wishes

Jem

i found a pic of my smile so i made a 6 month comparison pic. I swear I am not vain at all, its just that this post is sorta like my journal. Note: although in the braced pic I am forcing my mouth to open more, the 'before' is how i smiled before (upper teeth only).

April 16 2012: Adjustment + Cleaning
-----------------------------------------------------------
Cleaning was ok, except they found a little cavity :GapToothed:
Adjustment was sort of exciting- they put the flexible wire between my thicker archwire. :soremouth: and I definitely feel my front upper and bottom teeth. They feel tight and pressure. They said is to rotate and tilt my teeth-

They also mentioned that next step (time willing +\+) is the rectangular wire

Sorry you are in pain Lau...some adjustments are just bad like that...remember it only lasts a couple of days.. :(

If it helps--your smile is looking absolutely amazing--so white and straight!! You must be so happy!

Just repeat after me--it is worth it, it is worth it, it is worth it--and in your case, it's obviously worth it!
