Regulering17: - My life in dental braces

#1 Post by regulering17 »

Ok, so too bad I found this site so late into my bracified life, but here goes anyway.

On the 6th of Octobober I have had my braces on for 7 months. Not bad I guess. And even had a guy having a crush on me(while having braces on). Which isn't bad, he really must have liked my personality I guess?Haha.
So, I'll use this as a "my Dental braces" diary.

So first: Why do I have braces?
1)My upper teeth were too close, which made it harder to clean certain areas of my teeth, which caused caveties.

2)My bite was too deep, so I had to have braces both on upper teeth and lower. I didn't really get any options, and I figured that the invisible ones, weren't really that invisible, and later on I learned they took much more time. And I just want to get this over with.

For how long am I going to have my dental braces on?
My orthodontist estimated 1-1,5 years. I hope 1 year!!Or less of course..

So , wish me luck! I appreachiate all the support I can get!

Current situation: My teeth are as straight as they'll get now, I think, and what is corrected now is my bite. At my last appointment I got a very thick bracket? Well those you tend to change every now and then. It was quite painfull in the beginning, which is good I guess, cause it means: progress:) I think I see progress already, after a little more than 2 weeks since my appointment. Next time he said(my orthodontist), that they were only doing a controle(I dont know what that really implies?), and if the bite was not corrected they would use these rubber bands that are attatched on both upper and lower teeth to correct bite. Excuse my English, you guys use very different "brace-words" then what I do.
Hopefully my bite will be corrected within my next appointment:
1. November.

That's wishful thinking, however. He also talked about maybe pulling some teeth out. Hopefully not:/... The thing he changed, which I do not know the name off, but it the "metal band thing that is like a line on all the teeth, attached with what I think is the brackets, well those that are glued on. anyway, it was so thick and hard that he had a difficult time getting it in.. hey, i think it's called the archwire? It is a wire!
He literly hammered with his hand to fit it(don't worry it didn't hurt that much!well some. I could feel my teeth moving!)

So hopefully that will have some effect:) I'll update soon!Well I'll probably update after Nov.1st, and let you know how it went. Unless something unepected happens..

UPDATE!: Been a while..

#3 Post by regulering17 »

December 1st- 2007
So, I haven't been good with the updating.
But here is a quick one on myself and my teeth:
Next adj.: 13th of Dec.(SOON!)
Current situation: elastics, they suck but I really see progress! And I've gotten somewhat used to them I guess.
It's so amazing to what they can do though, simply incredible! Makes me smile:D hehe..
When I take them out, it's a little bit like my braces are out, cause I don't think that I have braces on, except when they are, cause then I can really FEEL it when i open my mouth, in terms of apperance.
So to be naiv I hope I won't have to wear them(elastics) anymore at my next apointment. Haha, well really to be realistic and still a little naiv: I hope I won't have to wear my elastics sometime after xmas.:)

Happy holidays all!
and me: I have a lot of mid-terms and tests, and I don't feel I'm doing so good. But I'm fine really:D
oh, and in 6 days, I have had my braces for 9 months! A whole pregnancy hehe, more or less.. Doesn't feel like that long at ALL!
Time flies=D
I defenetely do not regret having these braces..
I think I might be in love again, I sort of feel a connecting there.. I figured, if I guy's not going to like me now, he is shallow, and I don't want that when I take them off. Braces really help me see who's good and who isn't really. So haha, all the guys who didn't show me any attention before braces, cause when I take them off they'll all regret that, cause then I'll totally reject them!=D
Sorry Im in some sort of high school movie here, with the clischeys and everything. but I guess life is a bit like that...

Mona, no need to be self conscious about your braces with guys. Any guy worth his salt will see the braces as a health and self improvement thing and not as a detraction to your looks. Frankly, I'm so surprised myself at how little people notice them anyway. I don't think my boyfriend of six years even sees them at all. (except when I have lettuce stuck in them!!!!).

Good luck!! Congratulations for your progess and yes, time does fly!! :D

DECEMBER 4TH

So I got my adjustment moved to this upcoming Thursday! wish me luck..:)
Yeah, I defenetely agree with you guys on that, it's just that I am already quite selfconcious, and with the braces and especially the elastics I get even more selfconcious, and I just don't feel comfertable being with guys. I always look down, hehe..Ahhh my teeth hurt today.
Wow KK, that is awsome that you hardly notice your elastics are there! Maybe yours are not as small as mine? 'Cause mine are not only quite noticeable but also quite small, which means I imiditietely notice they are there when opening my mouth...
well I have a lot of hw:( I'll update after my next adjustment!!

NO MORE ELASTICS (FOR NOW)!!!
YAY! My otho said I had been doing a really good job wearing them and that for now I wont wear them, and see if it stays that way(the bite). Next time he was going to change the top archwire, so hopefully all the metal stuff that is in it now, idk what it is called? but it was put in with the elastics, to stress the teeth more..anyway, he said he was going to change the top wire to something"... 18", because it was little too much forward or something, but it was minor. I feel this journey is going to an end! Next apointment was Thursday Jan. 17th...So, if I am lucky I might be out of them some time in March. Wow that would really be awsome:)
Today is also my 9 months annerversery:D!!yay..
feeling not so good though, getting a little sick...oh well..
gonna do math now, have a mid-term tomorrow, take care<333

thanks guys!
I really hope this works out, so it won't be long untill my teeth are THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR.! hehe..
that's really funny! hm.though he hardly did anything with my teeth, just THIS IS SPAM a little and clipped off some wire..lol..like next time he said he was going to change the top wire, but why didn't he do that at the last apointment? I don't get him sometimes. I live near by, and I am home 6minutes after my apointment STARTED. I mean wow..he uses like literly 2 minutes..
maybe i should ask why he post-phoned the changing of wire.hm. he always does that, plans for next apointment...Maybe that is what you are suppost to do , Idk. I'm concidering trying to move it again, hehe. Not the first time I've done that, but I got like 7 weeks till my next apointment! I do feel my teeth moving a little, but yeah..the taste of nakedness feels so good..hehe..

so maybe I'll try to get my next one at Jan 10th instead. I'll say I have a test or something. A little white lie, every week counts for me now!

Adjustment 17th of Jan

#9 Post by regulering17 »

So, first adjustment this year:)
It went as usually, very short and FINE. Although my ortho got a phonecall while he was getting this wire thing out of my wire sort of, lol. Hard to explain, but I bet it looked funny!
Anyway; he changed the top wire to widen up my "narrow" upper jaw. Ahhhh it hurts bad today, but I'm alright. I feel my feet standing more out already, so I guess that is a good sign. I feel other people with braces, it is more visible 'cause they're braces are more "out-standing", I guess mine will get like that now because they were too narrow before, therefore the brackets weren't that much "in the way" for the lip. Hm, we'll see.
He gave it 6 weeks, untill next adjustment. So next one is 28th of Feb, 9.15 am. Hehe. Can't wait lol. Next time he said he was doing a controle, last time that means tightening the brackets somewhat. Idk, but I guess it is good. Hopefully this wire will do it's job. I wonder how though, cause previously my braces have been doing the oposite( pushing my teeth inwards more, to help bite). Well, I guess he knows what he is doing. Again I'm embaressed/shy to ask questions. I should, but he's not much of a friendly/outgoing person. Lol, but he does his job, and he does it with excellence. And of course he would answer questions, he does.
So next time I guess I must prepare for the big Question:

How am I doing? How much more do I got left of treatment aprox.?
So before I ask this I must prepare for it (braces) not coming off before summer. I'll be FINE. Really, it would suck but whatever.

Else in my life: new guy, he seems perfect. I'll let you know how it goes:) Still too shy with guys. I'm a nervous wreck hehe..

So, cross your fingers for my pain to go away because of adjustment, and I'll update again on February 28th. Very close to my 1st year passed in braces! Went by VERY fast. And oh btw: a friend of mine(who is also a guy in my class), might have to go into orthodontics, because of a bad bite + crowding. Only catch is he'll soon turn 18, and therefore he won't get anything covered(from the state). He's only gonna go through with it if he has to though. Would sort of be GREAT if he did though, because I'm so tired of being the only one at my age + I want people to see that this is no something I do because I really want to have them on(well I really really want nice teeth of course), but it's a "takes a lot of time sort of thing". And ah IDK, but he's sort of popular so it would be great, would set a good example + he got a girfriend. alright, see you february 28th. For now hoping to be out of orthodontics around my birthday: April 15th. I can only hope, but I've been doing this since I got em on, taking a few months at the time. Just making sure I don't get disapointed. But now time will fly away because I dance 4-5 times a week, I have a lot to do with political work + I have a lot to do in school + of course socially. Time flies, and no gain no pain right?
good nigth, - Mona

well, if anyone read that, excuse spelling errors and I of course ment TEETH and not FEET lol

and oh*** this also most likely means that I'll pass a year with braces! I was hoping for a year, but even if a miracle happens and I can take them off after next adjustment, it would pass march 6th! So, as said, hoping for April 15th. Well around there, or most hoping for before summer vacation:)(june 20th it start)

I got my one year bracavercery in 4 days!

My last adjustment was on the 28th of feb. I didn't go as I was hoping. My teeth are now back to the overbite the ortho's been working on forever to correct. Well it only took 4 weeks with elastics, then he tried to make the upper jaw less narrow, and then my teeth went back to the overbite, and now I have a 4mm overbite. Awesome. He said that if I wear the elastics a lot I can take of the braces fast(yeah I know I would expect him to use a word as: soon. Lol maybe he was stressed, or maybe I just overanalyze).
Anyway, the elastics hurt like ***** the first days, it was awful. But now it's fine. Although I absolutely hate them, I pop them out in my mouth if I'm going to talk to people I don't know(unless I don't care), or I have to talk in front of a lot of people etc. Argh I hate it. So I haven't worn then ABSOLUTELY all the time, like I have had hours with breaks. But it's been due to certain circumstances. Now I'm just gonna keep them on harcore, ALL THE TIME.(Except when I eat) I managed to lose on pack of them though, but I will get them back..left them some where. It will work out.
Ah, next adjustment is 3rd of April. Lets cross our fingers I'll manage...
