I am a 28 year old female who decided a couple of months ago that it was time for me to address my crooked front tooth. This was my primary concern when I entered into the orthodontist's office on May 13 for a consultation. I was quite surprised when the orthodontist told me that I had a number of problems that would require braces for two years and might require extractions of my second bicuspids. I went home wondering if I was crazy to consider braces, especially if I were to give up four healthy teeth!
I spoke to a number of people (including a second orthodontist) and quickly realized that it is sometimes necessary to remove teeth to be able to move the others into a proper bite. When I told my parents my mom was not surprised. She told me that this is a common problem in my family and that a number of my family members have required extractions to perfect their bite.
I then decided that I would go ahead with the braces and went for my reccords appointment on May 21.
Here are my before braces pictures...

They don't look too bad in these pictures but here is where my problem lies...
My teeth are pushed out and forward, hence my crooked front tooth.
Anyways...my brace day is this Monday (June 9). I am getting ceramic uppers and metal lowers (I'm going to ask for pink ligs on my bottoms!). I have stopped worrying about all of it and am now excited to start my journey to a beautiful smile!
My boyfriend has been very supportive of my decision and is coming with me on Monday. He's going to sit in the "parent's chair" and watch them put the braces on!
Your teeth already look pretty great with some braces it will really get that one tooth in line and your bite fixed.. I have been in braces for two weeks now. Its been a struggle for me but I keep reminding myself of the final outcome.. 2 years is my sentence as well.
Good luck in a few days getting them on and I think pink is a great lig choice Remember to drink lots of water and lip balm.. I think can become a spokesperson for lip balm because I think within the last two weeks I have bought about 6 different kinds lol..
Once you get braced up dont forget to take some pics! Let us know how it goes!
Congrats on the decision to fix your smile Amy! I bet you are going to see progress fast Oh, and you are not crazy for considering braces, you are smart!
Parents chair? Wha? My boyfriend offered to hold my hand the whole time and I said, "No thats alright you don't have to be there the whole two hours" thinking that he would just be in the way. I totally hadn't considered that it's normal for someone to watch. Yay!

23 year old brace face and proud of it!
My story is well under way! Follow along in my thread.
I'm actually getting my extractions tomorrow. My dentist wanted to make sure it was taken care of before the orthodontist puts the braces on. So I will be parting with four second bicuspids!
The extractions are done and I'd like to report that all is well. I had all four second bicuspids removed at 2:30 this afternoon. I have virtually no pain. It just feels weird to have four big holes in my mouth. Now I am very excited to get braced on Monday!
Well I'm all braced up now. I had my braces put on yesterday and it went very well. I have ceramic upper six and metal self-ligating brackets on the bottom. Yesterday went great and I only felt pressure on my teeth but today I am aching and have wax on many of the brackets. I have so many hooks in my mouth right now! Some of them are really irritating my mouth.
I am very happy and excited to start to see results!
Glad to hear it went great yesterday.. you will find its going to take some time to get used to everything thats in your mouth.. I have had cuts and canker for about three weeks but I can say I totally feel used to the braces now.. your braces look really good! I hope you feel good about your decision to get all braced up..
btw where are you from in Ontario? I used to live in Windsor before I moved state side last september..
Well I'm into day three with braces and am doing alright. Yesterday my teeth were so sore that I couldn't even let them touch. Putting wax on a bracket was also very painful. Last night I really wanted to have a break from my braces!
This morning when I woke up everything felt alright. It is only slightly uncomfortable today. I can't wait until I get used to having all of this hardware in my mouth!
How's everything going???? I'm so jealous that you are well on your way and it doesn't seem like you've had any major pain or problems! I can only hope it goes that well for me!
