WasabiEelRoll's story: canine in palate & crossbite

#1 Post by wasabieelavacado »

Hello everyone I am new to the forum.
I am 21 years old and got braced over the summer. I did take a few pictures here and there before I found this forum, but I wish I had better before pictures.

I'd like to share my scary teeth story with everyone :) ->

My parents were slightly apathetic toward my teeth and never took advantage of my FULL orthodontic coverage when I was younger. I developed a crossbite and my teeth have shifted horribly since my wisdom teeth have come in.

One day this past summer I had yawned in front of my father, when he noticed how horrible my teeth were... feeling somewhat responsible my parents decided to pay for my entire treatment which will cost $4,000.

-My biggest problem is that my right canine erupted in my palate. My 1st premolar had grown in rotated and taken it's place.
-I have a cross bite.
-My mid-line is very off and my jaw is very noticeably off balance when I close my mouth as a result of my bite.

I had my 4 premolars extracted and went with the ceramic braces.

I had my ceramic brackets bonded and my premolars extracted with 2 at a time with 2 weeks in between for healing in June and I had my first wire put in July.

I have since become a fan of chapstick :)

The canine in the back... this was sometime in October.

Progress is very slow and I have gaps everywhere. This was in December:

My teeth don't touch when I bite anymore!

I think I am up to my 4th or 5th wire change. I did lose count! However the wire I have on now is pretty thick and there is a bend where my canine should be that is helping to push my teeth more.

Thanks for looking. I will be posting better pics soon. 8)

Wow. Your canine is the opposite of what my canine looked like! Your teeth are very pretty, though, even if they are a little disorganized. You're smile has toothpaste-commercial potential! I'm sure you're going to be amazed how quickly things start lining up- congrats on your bracketing!

Excellent progress! Very encouraging! Any idea how long you'll be in braces?

Thanks! I haven't asked but I feel like at least/most July, which would make it 2 years.

I still have a crossbite on my back molars on my right side, as well as a slight crossbite on my left side. You can't tell in the pics but my left side canines knock into each other when i bite down all the way
