They're OFF!!! Updated with PICS!!!

#1 Post by KittyW »

Three of my brackets broke off today. It was an omen. My ortho said that we might as well just take them all off today!

So, I am now officially brace-free!!!! :D Woo hoo!

It's absolutely awesome! My teeth look huge! My smile is blinding me! I've got some clear plastic temporary retainers to wear until my upper Essix and lower Hawley are ready. I got pink gum colored with mini sparkles for the lower. Eventually, after I get a few crowns and fillings replaced, I'll have my shunt fixed. It's supposed to protect my teeth from grinding and is a thicker version of the Essix.

To everyone just starting their braces journey, it will be well worth it! :)

Here are my before, during and after pics! Hard to believe my lower teeth were so terrible. And look how white my debanded teeth are! I haven't even had the Zoom whitening done yet! The debanded "finished" pics are with the temporary retainers on. As soon as I can, I'll try to post my nekid teeth! :D

Ack! I hated those spacers! 12/2004

Here's that godawful coil making room for that back tooth! Took months to make enough space for the bracket on the tooth.

Thanks everyone! 8)

Flossing was weird tonight. So easy and quick. I'm likin' this!

The debanding didn't take long either. All but 2 brackets just snapped right off. The tech was really surprised. I guess the glue was just old (17 months old!). The most monotonous part of the process was getting all the glue remnants scraped off. Not unpleasant, just tiring hold my mouth open. The woman who debanded me was absolutely wonderful. I wish I'd had her for all my adjustments.

I had a piece of toast for breakfast today and bit into it like a normal person. The arched bitemark I left was just gorgeous!!!

I working on another bag of popcorn today.

The woman who removed my braces joked about the brackets coming off. They really should have been replaced last week at my last adjustment but the ortho assistant was convinced they would make it until the end of month, despite my telling her they wouldn't. I know my braces. I saw them all day for 17.5 months. Plus, the lower Damon 3 brackets (at least the older ones) had a tendency of the metal separating from the plastic part of the bracket. I think most orthos use only all metal lowers now.
