Hitting the wall

#1 Post by nvcarissa »

I think I have officially hit the wall. I am officially sick of all of this. Yeah, I am getting whiney. I want these wires gone. I hope tomorrow is better. The swelling is going down and what I am left with is tingling cheeks and lower lip. My cheeks still feel like they are stuffed with something. The swelling has moved down somewhat to my neck but my lower cheeks are still sore and swollen.

I am sick of the antibiotics. Honestly, the taste of them is vile. Don’t like pain medication that knocks me out. I hope I can get something else.

Stuff is draining into the back of my throat. I can’t gargle. I don’t even feel like I can swallow properly. And dear god, I want to be able to brush the inside of my teeth! And have I mentioned that I really hate these wires? I can’t tell if it’s my jaw that hurts or the wires that are making my jaw hurt. I guess I will find out tomorrow.

I am so sick and tired of all of this. Sweetie acts like tomorrow everything will go back to normal once I get my wires cut. No. It won’t. OS is putting elastics on and that will only allow me to open my mouth a little bit. I just want to have some sort of food…even eggs, for crying out loud. I have had it with a liquid diet (and it hasn't even been a week). I think I could kill for a salad. And I'd like to get a good night's sleep.

Thanks for listening...I see my OS tomorrow to get the wires cut. I hope my mental outlook improves then.

Oh well, I just took a dose of the vile antibiotics AND some pain meds...so I will be knocking off here, pretty soon. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Hey Carissa,
I know it is hard! You have been such a trooper thus far so don't be so hard on yourself. With any kind of surgery there are going to be days it just sucks! Believe me, I have gone through them with my SARPE also. After about a week the lack of sleep, liquid diet, the meds, and the all the stresses, really start to put a strain on a persons resources. Everything negative seems magnified, and its hard to see any positives. Remember that this is a journey, with each day improving a bit on the one the day before. Sometimes it is going to feel like you take one step forward and three steps back, that is just part of the process,, but you can handle this! As difficult as it is right now, you have come this far, and you know (in your heart) that you are far too tough to throw in the towel now.

Allow yourself the right to have a bad day! You have gone through a lot the last week. Anyone who says that surgery of any kind is all sweetness and light, is well....quite frankly just full of poop! Your having a bad day today, but remember it is only one day, and this too shall pass. You will get through this. One bad day for every 7 fairly decent ones is pretty good odds I think.

It is frustrating when we can't do the things we normally do, and hard to be patient and deal with it. Just know that what you are doing is for the good and that we only truly appreciate the things in life that we have to work hard for. Soon...sooner than you think this will all be a distant memory and you will be glad that you went through all this pain and anguish for the end results. In the meantime allow yourself to grieve a bit and know that we are all here ready to listen to you whine anytime! You are doing great, so at this point just try and fake it til you can make it and get through this crappy day. Tomorrow will be better I promise!

I'm sending you some peaceful, happy, and patient wishes right now....did you get them?? Keep your Chin up! Missy! (if it doesn't hurt too much)

Wishing you well!

Brandy

Hey nvcarissa

You're sending me horrible flashbacks of the past LOL

I know exactly how you feel. Its gets better every day. If you look hard enough, you'll notice certian little things get better day by day.

And if its getting worse now, soon, things will settle and get better day by day.

As for food, looks like you have some good ideas for some hearty broths and soups. keep it up. As for more solid foods, you'll just hafta wait and do your time lol. Sorry, thats not really advice is it.... i had to wait 2-3 weeks-ish to get eggs and more yummier foods down.

I read somewhere 7-up is great for clearing the throat if its mucus-sy.

things will get better, you're in eye of the hurricane, it'll dessipate.

Hats off to anyone who goes through this, honestly, its a hardcore experience. I wasnt wired shut, so i can only imagine the difficulty.

Thanks to all of you for your encouraging replies. I had a decent night's sleep last night, and I hope it will help. I decided to sleep in my own bed, rather than the recliner, and that seemed to help.

I realize that I was just having a really bad day, and I really am hopeful that things will feel better jaw-wise once I get these wires cut. They don't allow any movement at all...so say, if I get a shiver, it hurts. I didn't have any idea of how much I moved my mouth, even slightly, until I had this device that prevents even that slight movement.

My swelling has gone down quite a bit since Saturday. Later I will post a pic. But right now, I think I just need a hot shower.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Okay...this made me smile. No, it doesn't hurt if I don't lift it too high!

Stick in there, I know its hard but I think you know that lots of us out there are wishing you through this. Hard enough as it must be now it will be getting better day by day. I wish I was as far on as you.
Any sleep that you can get will really help as most of the healing that the body does happens while we are asleep.
Beast wishes

nvcarissa,

I know what you're talking about. You handled it the perfect way too! You realized what it was, you got it out of your system by talking about it, and you got some sleep.

I hit that wall too. I was actually doing ok but was going at my own pace. We had unexpected company and this company chose that time to bring over a female companion we had never heard of. Here I was all bruised, swollen, and eating from a baggie with food smeared around my face and now there is a giggling teenage girl in the house?!!! (I was eating at the time which made it FAR worse!) I lost it. I ran upstairs crying and said I couldn't do it any more. The more I cried, the more I couldn't breathe because my mouth was still pretty much closed. Bad times there. I felt stinky (my mouth), ugly, and kind of like a freak.

I think your sweetie is doing the right thing. He's just encouraging you, I'm sure. He knows it'll take time but it sounds like he will be helping you all along the way. Pretty soon when you go out to a restaurant, he'll be asking the waiter if they have smaller spoons :D

I know it is frustrating. I'm glad you were able to sleep in your own bed, I'm sure that helped a LOT. I think it's good to get back to as close to normal as possible. Be around supportive people, take care of yourself, and get those wires cut!!!!!

Jane

Well, I gotta tell you, this evening is much better than yesterday. I got my wires cut this afternoon and I can talk like a normal person!! I have two elastics on each side of my mouth (total of 4), but at least I can open my mouth a finger's width. My daughter and I went to Olive Garden afterward with the hopes that I could have pasta. I ordered the ravioli and told them to overcook it so that it would be super soft, but they weren't able to pull that off, so I ordered some angel hair with sauce and cut it up in teeny, teeny, tiny pieces. It was such slow going that I didn't get much down me, but I was able to eat some tiramisu for dessert. Funny, all that rich food after a week of broth and instant breakfast is not setting real well, but it was worth it.

I am still on a "no-chew" diet for the next few weeks, but at least I am getting some texture back in my diet. I think I am still going to continue to lose weight, just because I can't eat big bitefuls of food and fill up too fast. Oh well. But I have turned the corner!!

Oh...and I don't have to take any more of those vile anti-biotics. The OS said my mouth looked real good and I was healing nicely.

Will post pics tomorrow.
