Repost: Picture of Hawley Retainer & Question!

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Repost: Picture of Hawley Retainer & Question!

I posted this in the Metal Forum by mistake. I really meant to post it in here!

A co-worker just got her braces removed on Friday and she got Hawley retainers because I got my braces removed on 12-13-06 and I have them and love them. Hers where very different from mine. Hers are bulky and way bigger then mine. Also mine has a clear plastic with grooves over the wire. You can't see it, but mine full first name is engraved in the inside of the body in black letters. Mine are very confortable because they are so small and the plastic on the wire with the groove are mold to fit my teeth. I just got off the phone with her and told her it's only been a few days, I'm sure it will get better. She wants to go to my ortho for mold, so she can get a set of Hawleys like mine. Can that be done?

i'm so glad you posted a pic of your hawleys because my retainers look like that (except the top is a ladybug design, and the bottom is purple and green kind of striped-- and they dont have that plastic on the metal that you have on the front teeth), and i didn't know what kind of retainers they are!

thanks again! :o

She will probably have to pay extra, but I think it could be done. The difference in the retainer is probably the preference of the way the lab makes their retainers. But just in case, she should ask her orthodontist. There may be a reason why hers is different.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
