__adrienne`s story; UPDATE PG.8 [two months!] pics

#1 Post by adrienne »

STATS:
*my name is adrienne but call me adri.
*i live in hk : )
*one tooth on my top arch has a cross bite and my top arch is kinda really crowded. also, my teeth next to the centre teeth .. (sorry, i don't really know their names) are kind of slanting inwards .. (i'm hard at describing things ..) so my upper teeth are the ones which need more work because my fang teeth are also raised up a bit .. so .. my teeth just look hideous which is why i always cover my mouth when i laugh and i never smile in pictures :/ hopefully braces will make me more happy 8)
*my bottom arch is pretty much straight except for like one tooth .. but i think that if they are straightened even more, it will look even better (:
*i have vampire fangs :K
*im 15

***

CALENDAR:
- May 15 : went to dentist for an orthodontist referral. said that i have no cavities and that my gums are in healthy condition :)
:!: - June 7 : Consultation with Orthodontist :!:

***

So .. I pretty much will have to wait for a bit before I will finally have my consultation.
I'm pretty excited actually, cause I've always wanted to get my teeth straightened but my mom just didn't think I needed braces. I hope I won't need any extractions cause I'm so scared of needles and pain and the dentist  and just imagining a needle going into your gum is just creepy. I want to get ceramic on top and maybe metal on the bottom cause you can't really see my bottom teeth when I talk or smile.

Thanks hannahwebbo! :P

I'll definetely be keeping track with your thread as well!
We may end up getting the same brace days as each other! (:
That depends on whether I'll stick with this one ortho or ask for other opinions from another.
Hope everything goes well for your appointment!

I'm looking forward to your next post!
And I'm still anxious of waiting for my appointment lol!!!

Yeah it would be cool 8) to have a brace day buddy!

I know what you mean about being anxious. I just want the time to go by quicker so that i have some insight into what works needs to be done.

Im considering going to see other orthos aswell to get other opinions. If i see any others though they will definatly be privately so i hope everything goes ok with the first one i see.

We'll just have to see how things go.

Speak to you soon Adrienne

Congrats!

Not sure how long turnaround time is in HK, but my Ortho was ready to have me in less than a week later.

Unfortunately, the Ortho x-rays take about that long to come back and we didnt want to cut it close and the next opening I could fit in was June 7.

Hope to see you in braces shortly after that :D

Wow Pixel Witch! You were able to see your Ortho in less than a week?
LUCKY!
The office I went to was really neat! And it was filled with a lot of other people.
My friends actually had to book their appointments a month or two in advance but they got braced two weeks after their consultation!
So I'm guessing that 2/3 weeks (for me) isn't really that bad, but I do wish that I COULD have had an earlier date ..
Oh well
Better than nothing.

I was definitely shocked.

Someone here referred me to my Ortho, I called, and had an appointment for the consult less than a week later.

I decided to go for it while there, made my records appointment (which is basically just my x-rays), took impressions and decided on what kind of brackets (metal) We also went over my payment plan and set up B-Day.

The original date she wanted to give me was this coming Thursday the 24th, but she wasn't sure the x-rays would be in by then. The 31st they are closed, so the next available Thursday was the 7th :)

I could probably have them a bit sooner, but I have Thursday/Friday off from work and figured that would be best. Why ask for time off on a day I have to work, you know? :D

Ooh! Thursday the 7th! Same here! Except I'm just going to have my consultation.
Oh and I was wondering whether ceramic braces will look weird on smaller teeth? Because my upper teeth are a bit small and do you think it will stick out a bit more? ><

Hi again Adrienne

Ive got small teeth myself (and big gums which i hate :( )and ive been worried that i wont be able to have ceramics on them as they are abit bigger than the metal ones. Hopefully having smaller teeth wont be a problem.

Adri I think we have a simmilar problem with our top teeth. I've often refered to mine as vampire fangs as well!

Yay! Now I have someone to relate to :)
Do you think the Ortho can shape the teeth to make it less .. fang like? As in .. not sharp and pointy! lol

I think that once my teeth are in the right spots then they won't look so fang like. But to be honest I like a nice pointy canine!

Well today something GREAT happened!
I came back from school and my mom told me that my ortho consultation was switched to today cause they had a free space so YAY!
I went in and I waiting for a while, but I also watched a movie and looked around at the teeth impressions they had on display. I also filled in a patient form and they were really friendly to me and my mom :D

When it was my turn, they showed me to the records room and even though it was so cold, they had the model displays and it was so cool . When the Ortho came out, he introduced himself to us and started off with checking my teeth and all that ..

He said that my bottom arch was already okay and there wasn't much problems about that, but then he said that my upper arch was too small and that he would need to use the expander thingy @_@

He said that I wouldn't need any extractions, which was good!!
But that I would wear the expander for 1 month then 3 months retention then braces will be put on after that .. I kind of forgot for how long but he said that all together it will be about two years. He would explain more at the next appointment which I think will be the Ortho Presentation.

I then also have the records done as well with the impressions and photos and xrays and stuff. All together it cost about $1000HKD which is about .. $130US for the consult and records.

He said that the treatment will cost $34,000 HKD [$4,300 US] (including expander) but will cost $4000 HKD [$500-ish US] more if I wanted ceramics.

Wow Adrienne

Its great that you got your consultation early. Hope that happens with me.
Your treatment plan sound good. Two years is about average for alot of people i think. How long will you have to wait until your next appointment?

Good luck with your treatment
