Sabrina's Story - fully braced now

#1 Post by ¤sabrina¤ »

Hi Everyone,
I am 26, and am gonna be braced within the next few weeks. I only decided to visit an orthodontist as I have a retained baby tooth (incisor) at the front of my lower jaw. My dentist measured and the roots of the adjacent teeth were too close for a no risk implant. I didnt want to take the chance and damage healthy inciscors.
I was reluctant to see an orthodontist, i was considering having a maryland bridge done but a friend convinced me that braces would be the best long term solution.
The orthodontist told me I would need to have 2 upper premolars extracted to create some space as I have some crowding on top. On the bottom I had extra spaces so she would just have to close them. Also my bite was slightly off - Angle Class II division 1 malocclusion. She said it should take about 24mths in braces.
I had the records appointment done immediately as I wanted this to to happen quickly.
I had my spacers put on 29th feb 2008, the molar bands were put on 17th March 2008, 2 upper 1st premolars were extracted on 20th March 2008.
My appointment to be braced is on April 17th an 24th .
I had asked about self ligating brackets at the first visit and thats what I am getting the 3M Unitek SmartClips.
I will update as things progress.

I had to get those same teeth extracted. It wasn't terrible, but I psyched myself out over nothing. Hope yours are healing well and not giving you any problems!

Your smile is going to be gorgeous when you're done.

Miss Chastity, i got an infection a few days later on the right extraction side, but the dentist gave me some antibiotics and it went away, that side is healing a bit slower than the left, the left is getting shallower an closing, the dentist says they both look good now tho
Did u get brackets behind the molar bands?

Glad to hear that the antibiotics cleared up the infection.

I didn't get bands!

Ouch. But better to get that stuff out of the way before the braces are on!

How come you have two appointments for getting your braces on?

I can't wait to see pics of your braces when you get them on. I think I would've got the self-ligating if they were an option. We have around the same estimated treatment time. You have nice looking teeth and your smile will be gorgeous when your all done! I'm jealous of your lips.

My ortho didn't say what brand my braces are, but I can ask. He basically just showed me a picture of guy with the classic metal braces and a girl in ceramics and said "these are your choices, the ceramic cost a little more and may extend treatment time a little, but many adults choose them because they are more discreet" and I said "okay, I want those". They do blend in, but the brackets seem larger than metal.

I had regular braces when I was younger so I wanted to try something different!

do u have ligs?

when i went to my ortho i specifically asked for self ligating brackets, she said they have 3m unitek smartclips only, as she didnt like damon
i said ok
i did ask about the new 3m clarity which are clear and are suppose be be just as effective as metal even though they are ceramic but the assistant told me they didnt have those yet
when i go next week i will ask again for them
i dont want regular ceramics as they would lengthen treatment time

I do have ligs. My ortho doesn't do self-ligating. I really like how the ceramics look so I don't mind wearing them a little longer.
