32 years - My story

#1 Post by sportsman »

Hi to all!

First things first, so i have to say this forum is excellent and i'm enjoying reading your posts.

I'm 32 years old, when i was young i had a very misplaced teeth, and in that time, fixed braces were very expensive, so i used the removable ones for several years. The end results were very reasonable, and people always said i had a good smile.

Several years ago, since i can afford fixed braces (and the costs associated to them like regular visits for adjustments, etc) i've been thinking of put braces to finally achieve the smile i always wanted. I think I have a very reasonable smile, from several angles they are OK, but they are not perfect, they are a little inclined, and the canines are a little misplaced.

I think that should be relatively easy to fix, from this two pictures, what is your opinion? Will i get visible results by using braces? Is it possible to achieve the perfect smile we all want?

I would like to ask you one question. I'm a boxer (only training and occasionally some spar ring), is there any special mouthpart to protect my braces?

If i'm hit is it possible to dislocate or break the braces? Has anyone practice combat sports while using braces ?

Thanks to all! Your stories are great and your progress are amazing and very inspiring !!!

You should consult with an orthodontist for an honest answer. I would think that any problems you have could be addressed with braces, but since I'm not an ortho, I can't give you a complete answer. An orthodontist can give you a much better assessment after looking at your bite and the condition of your teeth and gums.

There are mouth guards specifically for people who are in braces and play sports. I'm not sure if they're recommended for contact sports like boxing. I would think that wearing a mouth guard would lessen the chances of losing a bracket, however, brackets can come off at the most random times - even for people who aren't actually participating in sports. Definitely get a custom mouth guard if you do decide to get braces.

Hopefully, others will chime in shortly.

I've already consult an orthodontist, and ill put metal braces on the upper teeth next 14.
I have to remove the upper left wisdom teeth first (by the way, it will be removed in the same day i'll put the braces)

Its funny that i've taken so long to decide and now i want to put it as soon as possible.

From reading many posts here, i realize that some of the members are very knowledge in orthodontics, so, to help with this urge to put the braces i would like to hear their opinion. As i spend many years using removable braces, my smile is ok, but i want to archive a perfect smile, something i always wanted.
I think my case is not very complicated, but i really dont understand anything about orthodontics.

Regarding the mouth guard, i saw this one, seams appropriated for braces, i'll probably try it:

I'm really enjoying this forum, recording the progress with before-after pictures is a really good idea, i'll probably do it to :)

Cheers ...

I'd love to have a smile like yours, aesthetically I dont see any need for braces.
IMHO its not worth it. There might be some small imperfections, but I think they add to a smile.
