First time posting.

Short story. I am 26. I have wanted braces all my life but my parents could not afford them. Now that I have insurance from work that covers 1500 dollars of the treatment, i decided to go ahead and get them done now. the sooner the better I guess.

I have a gap and and overbite and overjet. My teeth have always had a gap because i was a thumbsucker up until i was maybe 11. My bottom row was never really a problem. But my top row made me very self conscious

I got metal brackets though they offered ceramics for the top row for 300 dollars extra. I went with the metal because somewhere i keep reading that they are faster. I also eat a ton and didnt want to deal with staining such large brackets. Overall im satisfied with metal.

I currently have a full set (32 teeth) but something tells me i will probably have some extracted...grrrr. I'm sure its for the better.

Having said that, pictures are worth a thousand words/ the real reason people click on these links

note- The ortho put that little thingy on my front teeth the day i got braces. Im not sure what it is but its supposed to make my gap close quicker.

your teeth are on the move as well and you pictures are really clear! I take my pics on my phone and they are not nearly as clear as yours.

Alibracket First adjustment

#5 Post by alibracket »

Had my first adjustment
It went a little something like this

Show up, check in on the computer and sit down for approx: 2 minutes. Called to the back.

The assistant sat me down and we waited for 1 minute for the ortho to come over. He came over, looked at my chart, looked at my teeth for about 30 seconds. Told the assistant to put on power chains 'molar to molar' on the top and change the ligs on the bottom. In less than 2 minutes she was finished. I was expecting her to change the archwire but she didnt.

Ortho came back 3 minutes later and checked the assistants work. He asked if I had any questions, i said no. He then told me to come back in 3 monthes.

(It sounded like he told all 4 people to come back in three monthes (kinda long it seems). I am certain that this has to do more with the upcoming christmas holidays than anything else. It definitely seems like he spaces these appointments far apart.)

all over in about 10 minutes. good thing he isnt far.

Great progress so far! How are you finding the powerchains? I have one from molar to molar on the bottom, because there was a small gap in between two of my teeth, but everything is all fixed up now. How long of a treatment time are you on? 3 months between adjustments seems a long time, mine were every 4 weeks.

Good luck!

First Adjustment

Congrats again! Geez! I'm with Switchblades...3 MONTHS!!! Wow! Your wire will be about ready to fall out by time your next ortho appointment comes up. Are you doing Damon brackets? That would make it a little more understandable.

I can definitely see some progress. The appointment may have been pushed put due to the holidays. If I were you, however, I would ask him if I could return sooner if they scheduled me for another 3 month appointment. I have been very eager to get debraced since day one and have gone back and forth with my orthondontist about speeding up this process. I also had my wisdom teeth, but they were extracted prior to getting braced. By the way, that "thingy" on your front teeth is a powerchain. Get use to them because they are frequently used to close spaces.

@Hey Buckey, SwitchBlades & Leager2000

Yeah I dont know what the heck hes doing with these extended periods between adjustments. I thought 8 weeks before my first adjustment was a little long but 3 monthes takes the cake. You would think I had damons but im not even sure they have 3 months between adjustments! Lol.

At the rate we're moving, I wonder if next time he'll tell me to come back in another year....

LOL!!! I hope not! The joy of braces is getting an adjustment! I'd definitely ask him what's up with the waiting period to get an adjustment, if he schedules your next appointment sometime around Memorial Day

Hi! Your teeth are so pretty! Even at the beginning! I absoulutely love that you admited to putting things on your teeth to see what braces might look like! I did too, once I stuck a twist-tie in my mouth-and almost swallowed it. And I wasn't little, it was only a few months ago.
Do you plan to get your wisdom teeth out? I had mine removed last year because they got infected. I see that you have a crown in the back (just like me). I kept thinking, "Why dont they just take out some of my old teeth and let me keep the wisdom teeth, they don't have any cavities yet!"

My first adjustment was 2 months after I got braces and they didn't do too much at that appointment, just poked around a bit. My next adjustment is on Monday, 3 months after my last one. I think the reason for the large time gap is because the wire is still doing it's job. But that's just my guess.

Great progress so far!

Hi Alibracket,

Thank you for posting on my story. Your progress looks fantastic already, your teeth are looking beautiful! I get so impatient waiting for the adjustment appointments, hopefully your time between appointments will be much shorter next time.

Keep posting and taking photos, it's great to your progress. :o
