paperbackhead's braces journey

#1 Post by paperbackhead »

Hey everyone! I just got my ceramic braces on today, well only my upper teeth. I am getting my bottoms on January 11. Overall the procedure didn't hurt and it doesn't really hurt right now. It's just an annoying feeling that I'm gonna have to get used to. I just learned that I'm going to have to pull 2 more teeth, making that 4 teeth total. At first they told me the top 2, but today they told me I have to pull the bottom 2 as well by my next appointment. I was like oh great, as if 2 wasn't enough. I have to pull my top 2 first bicuspids, and my bottom 2 canines. I didn't notice how crooked my teeth actually were until after they put on the braces. My teeth just feel tight when I bite down. Anyway, I feel that I am now officially a member 8)

I will post pics soon!

Congrats, paperbackhead :D .

...glad to hear it went well. Yea, it certainly does feel weird in your mouth in the beginning. I remember it well. Sorry to hear about your having to remove 4 :!: teeth. One thing the ortho told me is that I won't have to have any extractions this time around. Thank God...Last time I had my wisdom teeth out - in the middle of treatment. Anyway, it'll all be worth it in the end.
Good luck with everything 8) .

Hey mikesmile!

It's the next morning and finally I get feeling the pain. The inside of my cheek is all cut up and my front teeth hurt pretty badly. I feel this sucks more than spacers because at least those didn't cut me up inside my cheeks. I am putting some wax on the hooks so they don't bother me as much so we'll see how that goes.

Yea sucks that I have to pull teeth but oh well :\

It's day 3 and I am in moderate pain. My teeth pretty much hurt except for my molars (even better cause I need them to chew) and the hooks are digging into my cheeks real bad. I'm putting wax but they only help for so long. I really hope I'm not gonna have to deal with this for the 2 yrs I have them on. I already have some cuts and canker sores. On top of all this, I'm really sick. Not a good week.

Hey paperbackhead,

Sorry about your discomfort. Sounds like you have a double whammy - mouth pain and illness (yikes!). I hope it all passes quickly. It's enough to have one or the other - make sure you get plenty of rest! :)

Desert Rose - Thank you!! I feel slightly better from the last time I posted, although my throat still hurts. I still feel some pressure from the braces, but only when I bite down on them. How's it going for you?

mikesmile - I know right!! Definitely a double whammy haha, I didn't go to a school for a day so I could get some rest, think it was Wednesday. I felt much better. Did you go to your appointment yet?

PrincessFunnybook - haha, thanks! Unfortunately I'm not much of a reader. paperbackhead is just a song I like

PrincessPeach - Thanks! :) I know I already feel like I'm used to them, even though I still feel it cutting me. Everyone says you won't notice the pain from it cutting you after a while, hopefully!

Paperbackhead,

I'm glad you are almost all better!!!

I am pretty much in the same boat as you w/ pressure mostly only if I bite down now. Although sometimes randomly things will just feel tight for awhile again, I like that though, I was getting worried they had stopped doing anything! lol I can chew really good now on my back teeth, but it is still almost impossible for me to actually bite into stuff in the front. Even a banana I have a hard time getting a piece off with my front teeth. So now I have gotten to gnawing on everything from the side. I can only imagine what I look like doing this! For the most part I'll just cut stuff up instead of working at it whole. Also the only spot that is still really bothering me from the braces is the inside of the front of my mouth on the bottom. I sometimes have the indent of my bottom braces under my bottom lip so that gets kind of sore, but hasn't cut yet. Also the worst thing is I have only two cankers, but they are not from my actual braces!! They are on the gum under each canine tooth on the bottom and I'm pretty sure they are from when they first stuck the lip retractors in my mouth, they cut me there. I couldn't figure it out at first, I was like how could they be there, they are under the braces on the same side, no possible way the braces did it obviously lol. They kill though, such an awkward spot, I think they are slowly healing though..

I still am not sued to having this all in my mouth though, how bout you??

wow we really are exactly in the same boat!! haha.. i could relate to everyone you said. although i don't have my bottom braces yet so i'm sure you're feeling more pressure than me. i'm glad i can chew with my back teeth because there's no way i can bite with my front teeth. it sucks eating bread too cause it gets all stuck in the brackets. i think my cheeks are slowly getting used to these sharp hooks they have encountered haha, thankfully!! i was like wow am i gonna have to feel this forever?? the canker sores and cuts are slowly healing but the hooks still sometimes get stuck in there but not as much pain as before. i can't wait till i pull my teeth so i can finally start seeing obvious movement. i'm going to my oral surgeon consultation on tuesday and he'll tell me when they are going to extract.

i guess i'm almost used to having all this brackets wires metals and hooks in my mouth  it's weird cause i don't remember what my teeth used to feel like and it's only been like 7 days.

So today marks the 8th day. I feel no pain whatsoever. I never thought I would be able to say that haha... seemed very unfortunate considering the first few days were real painful. I'm happy that I'm already used to it, I thought it would take like 2 weeks. Went to my consultation for my extraction of pre-molars at my oral surgeon's office... He said something about maybe ripping the gum open to easily remove the tooth because the pre-molars have a long root. Said I could be put to sleep if i wanted to, I still can't decide if I just want numbness or numbness and put to sleep as well, I thought it would be an easier routine but he gave an option of general anesthesia because of ripping the gum open. My appointment is December 28 and actually I'm glad I'm just going to take out all 4 at once, just to get it over with.

Hi againbrace! :)

thanks a lot! I know... I can't wait till the extractions so then I can actually see some movement and of course, the hard part is over.

Sorry that I haven't posted any pics yet, I will get to that very soon.

In 2 days it will be 2 weeks that I've had braces, time really does go by fast. No pain whatsoever again, definitely 100% used to it. But I know after the extractions the pain will once again begin.
