Do I need the removal of first bicuspids to achieve the best possible result?

#1 Post by TheWolf »

Hi! When I was young (I think younger than 10 years) I've started a mobile braces treatment which I never finished. At that time I also extracted a top left bicuspid as the doctor advised me. Now, at the age of 23, I want to start a new braces treatment. I've already seen 2 orthodontists who both said I would need to extract my 3 first bicuspids (1 top and 2 bottom), but I still don't know if that's the right thing to do. I would definitely be happier if I won't have to extract any teeth, but I don't know if that's possible, plus my top midline is diverted left due to the already done extraction. Would 3-rd molar extractions help me get a correct bite and straight teeth? Please help me with some advises.

It seems like yours is a case where extractions may really be warranted, but then again im no orthodontist (modt if us here arent) and you can feel free to have more consultations, but you may end up hearing the same thing time and time again.

Maybe specifically ask your questions to an orthodontist and see what they say
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

The first extraction has already caused an alignment problem. I think not taking more would result in an odd number of teeth and cause problems with bite alignment and functionality over time. Speaking from experience, I had 2 teeth removed prior to braces and then 2 teeth removed during my jaw surgery. The two removed as part of jaw surgery would have ended up being nonfunctional post op and would have come out eventually.

Hi again! I decided to go with the last visited orthodontist, who initially said that I need my 3 first bicuspids extracted. After analysing my case better, she decided that instead of my top right first bicuspid, it would be actually better to extract my first molar considering the fact that it has root canal treatment and a huge filling (more than 3/4 of the tooth crown), plus my wisdom tooth on that side would straighten too (it is currently inclined to my cheek). For the bottom arch I'll extract my first bicuspid on each side.
So, I followed the next appointments and today I got my top braces mounted. I have 3-3.5 hours since then and although I feel the pressure (especially to my front teeth), it doesn't hurt. Hope it stays like this! In about 5 weeks I'll have my top molar extraction, then in the next appointment my bottom braces mounted and probably at the next appointment my bottom teeth extractions.

It's the sixth day with my top braces, and although I never had any pain when I simply stay (except for the first half an hour in the morning after I wake up and my molars hurt), I still can't eat properly because everything which must be chewed comes with a smaller or bigger pain. How much do I have to wait until I would start to feel no pain, at least for soft foods which must be chewed (like McDonald's hot fries or McChicken)?

Assuming you aren't allergic or anything, take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Naproxen. (You can ask your ortho if you can take greater than the OTC dose for a few days.) That should help with the pain a bit and enable you to get used to chewing with your new gear.

Today was day 11. Since day 7 or 8, left part pain disappeared. It still hurts a bit my front teeth and the right part, but it's totally manageable, I can bite pretty normal food or chew using them. Waiting to see some movement, not waiting for the extractions. :(
