When your braces rub against the insides of your lips and cheeks, friction sores may develop. Dental Wax is a product that you can use to cover your braces brackets and protect sensitive spots inside your mouth. Dental Wax usually comes in little containers of 4 to 6 small strips. You can find it in most pharmacies. To use it, just break off a small amount, smoosh it between your fingers to warm it slightly, and adhere it onto the brackets that are causing the mouth sores.
Dental Wax should be taken off when you brush your teeth, and re-applied as needed. If you swallow it, don’t worry; it will likely just pass right through your digestive tract.
Dental Wax usually only sticks to the metal parts of your braces, so it’s not a good material to use for a sharp tooth or loose filling. If you have a sharp tooth, a product called OrthoDots might do the trick until you can see your dentist. If you have a loose or lost filling, you should use a temporary filling material until you can see your dentist to replace the filling.
You can get Dental Wax from your orthodontist. Sometimes you can find it at your local drug store or the pharmacy department of your local supermarket. Or, you can buy it online at DentaKit.com.
