My First Day in Braces

experiences of ArchWired readers

Cinthia from Pernambuco, Brazil

I'm 32 years old and I have been with braces since only one month. In the beginning everything was OK, of course there was some pain in my cheeks and problems to eat some foods. In this case my preferred foods are mashed bananas with milk flour, soups, "macaxeira" and "canjica", which is very popular here this month because of Junine parties.

No drinking coffee, and Coca-Cola is not too bad for me. I really don't like coffee and I think it is a good idea to abolish Coca-Cola. I put ceramic braces and I'm glad with my choice. The most strange thing have is that I'm pregnant and, different from my first pregnancy, I'm nauseated many times so I have the impression that braces increases my feeling of dizziness and nausea. Toothpastes are terrible too! Every time I feel this weird taste in my mouth! I know that there isn't contraindication for braces during pregnancy, but for women who intend to have a baby during the treatment I recommend to be prepared for these uncomfortable sensations.

(Editor's note: Everything made me nauseated when I was pregnant, and I wasn't even wearing braces! :-)
