A Bionator Appliance is a removable device used to treat growing children with an overbite or overjet. It stimulates growth of the lower jaw to help correct the overbite. Most children need to wear the Bionator around the clock, except for eating, brushing, and playing contact sports. There are several different types of Bionators that the Orthodontist can use, depending on the child’s facial profile and severity of malocclusion. The one pictured above is the Bionator I To Open (used for a skeletal deep bite on a recessive lower jaw). There are also the Bionator II To Close (for an anterior open bite with either a Class I or Class II malocclusion), a Neutral Bionator (for children with good vertical dimension), and an Orthopedic Corrector Bionator (for more severe Class II malocclusion).
