A Consultation with an Orthodontist is an initial appointment where your teeth and bite will be evaluated. It is usually free (no cost). During a consultation, the Orthodontist will talk to you, look at your mouth and teeth, and give you an opinion about what orthodontic work may be needed.
If you decide to go ahead and have treatment with the Orthodontist, their office will schedule you for an Evaluation. During the Evaluation, you might get X-rays, discuss your medical history, have photos taken of your face, and have photos and impressions taken of your teeth. You may sign a contract, discuss payment and insurance options, and be asked to give a downpayment.
Your braces don’t usually go on until the appointment after the Evaluation. This is because the Orthodontist needs time to look at your X-rays and photos and come up with a treatment plan.
