Debanding is the process of taking the braces brackets off your teeth. It is a procedure where the brackets are clipped off your teeth with special pliers. It doesn’t hurt, but you will probably feel pressure and hear a snapping, popping, or crackling sound when the bracket is released from the bonding cement.
Sometimes some residual cement is left on your teeth. Your orthodontist will remove this with a special tool. After debanding, your orthodontist will make a mold of your teeth for a set of retainers. (Sometimes a mold is taken about a week before your braces are removed (while your braces are still on) so that your retainers are ready to put in as soon Debanding is finished.
