Orthodontists?

Does anyone know of an Orthodontist, whether here on this board or elsewhere, that is willing to answer questions about a specific case and possibly give off-the-record opinions by looking at photos? I know this is a loaded question, but it's worth a try!! I also understand that without models, xray...

I had one lower plate & screws removed in October. Piece of cake compared to the original surgery!! I had a good bit of swelling and discomfort, but it was manageble and short lived. I had the plate removed on a Friday morning and returned to work on Monday.

I had some really weird things happen for the first 3-4 months after my lower jaw advancement surgery. One thing was that I had unbelievable muscle spasms that I didn't think would ever settle down. Mine weren't just in my jaw area but consumed the entire inside of my head. Scared me to death! But I...

I was tightly banded for 5 weeks. Was supposed to replace bands every couple of days after the first 2 weeks but that was the only time I was allowed to take them off. Then at 5 weeks my Ortho took over and switched me to his lighter elastics.

When I had increased swelling around days 5-6, it was due to infection. I hope you are better now and this isn't the case for you!

A Couple of Questions

My bottom teeth were pretty straight already when I was banded this second time. But after a couple of months in braces, it looks as if the front 4 teeth are being moved to an unpleasant position. Maybe it's the way my brackets are placed and maybe it's supposed to be this way, but here is what's ha...

Michelle's Journey in Braces - x2

I am 29 years old and this is my second time in braces. I have a moderate overbite which will be corrected with lower jaw surgery in approximately 18 months. My upper and lower midline is also off. I had braces in high school but failed to wear my retainers for the proper amount of time after being ...

I have the same brackets on top, too! I have metal In-Ovations on bottom. I go for my first adjustment next week. The 3rd day was my worst. Motrin was barely enough to keep me comfortable that day. Then it got better from there. I'm in week 3 and I have no discomfort and I'm probably eating things I...

I've got In-Ovation C's on top. They do have shiny metal doors, but they aren't too noticeable. I don't know what the others you are referring to look like. My ortho only does In-Ovations.

I forgot to post an update. I had to make a special visit to the ortho because a wire was sticking out in the back so I mentioned it. The assistant put glue on each one for me. She said she does that for many patients as it's one of the more popular complaints. It still doesn't feel great, but it's ...

I'm beginning to wonder why myself, although my Mom tells me my teeth looked really good when the braces first came off but didn't hold their position for long. My fault I guess for not wearing the retainers as much as I should have in the beginning. I took some pictures this weekend. I'll post them...

I can't view your photo. I'd love to see what your In-Ovations look like. I feel like mine are super bulky compared to other people I run into that have traditional brackets. :-( Edited to add...Duh...I see the pictures now. Your In-Ovations look great (and just like mine...ha)! Maybe I'm being too ...

Wow, I didn't realize there were insurance companies that would pay for for even a portion of adult orthodontic braces (over 19 years old). My insurance company has approved my jaw surgery, but I'm having to pay for braces myself (unless I've missed something - I have BC BS.) I got a very low intere...

Question about Lower Jaw Surgery

I am supposed to have lower jaw surgery +/- genioplasty (I don't think I'll need the chin fixed) in approximately 18 months. I saw on my chart this week that I'll be in class III elastics prior to surgery. If I understand correctly, this will help make my overbite WORSE in preparation of aligning my...
