Other than sometimes staying in when my teeth are super sore, my braces haven't affected my social life at all. I don't have any braces related self-consciousness. If anything I smile more now than before braces because I know I'm doing something to improve my smile. Faerydust, I do the same thing!...

Perfect Wisdom Teeth

Hi, All: I currently have all of my wisdom teeth and they are all straight. When I got my braces @ the beginning of October '08, I got a molar band put on both of them. The molar next to each one on top has been pulled (long ago) and the molar on the left bottom has been pulled (long ago). My questi...

I'm new to this but my dentist put some strange putty on my teeth so that I wouldn't bite down and pop off a bracket. Its really weird, but there are about two contact points, so I'm having fun finding new ways to eat (breaking off pieces of PB sandwiches) and new things to eat that don't require c...

Thanks, Mary. I actually went one day without wax on my 12 hour shift at work. The steel molar "clasps" or "bands on my back molars did their usual scraping of my cheeks, but this time, I didn't feel any pain, but the spots that they were scraping built up "bumps" at the scr...

Thanks, Katarina. Do you know the purpose of the salt water rinses? Do they help with the pain or something?

Eating My Cheeks For Lunch!!

Hi, Everyone: Well, I finally got my braces on this past Monday!! My teeth don't hurt but I am having an awful time with the braces scrubbing against the inside of my cheeks. I'm sure there have been postings on this subject, I just don't know how to filter them out. Can anyone give me an idea about...

Well, the process has finally started!! Yesterday, I got 3 spacers. I remember the assistant saying they would be uncomfortable but not painful. I think that exactly 8 hours later, I felt really sore everytime I bit down. On top of that, my teeth are so tight she was unable to really push them all t...

Re: Payment

Hi Embraceable, just an idea on payment...I used one of the three options my ortho gave me called Carecredit. It is for medical things, and if your ortho accepts it, it is great! Mine cost 3100, total for all, ceramics on top, regular brackets on bottom. There is very little interest, and you can u...

Everytime they gave me an appt. I asked if there was anything earlier, and I am always told that during the summer they have so many kids' appts. they just don't have any earlier openings. It really is frustrating.

FRUSTRATED!!!

Hi, Everyone: This situation is really starting to frustrate me, but if you guys tell me that "it's the norm" I will just let it go. Finally, at the age of 39, I am financially able to get braces. Well, my general dentist gave me a referral to an Ortho that seems pretty cool. I had my cons...

Thanks, LongInTheT: I am in my late 30's and in talking to several of my working friends, NONE of them had orthodontia coverage. Their insurance only covered children up to 19 years of age. I honestly believe that that has alot to do with why many adults do not pursue orthodontia-they can't afford t...
