I have heard of this happening with upper expansion and moving the uppers forward but not the lowers. Maybe other posters can step in to answer this.

Re: My Consultation with Dr. Gunson - result and thoughts
I am curious about the 3.7 mm impaction of the upper jaw. It does seem small for 10 mm lip incompetence. Not having the joint issues is great, many patients that need surgery do.

Do you feel using the permanant retainers, versus the removable, have been of help in this?

Re: I saw my surgeon
an ICAT can give a 3 dimensional view of the bone. I don't know how far after surgery they can tell if there is healing or not. I'd look for a second opinion especially if the surgeon says he has never seen it before and you are concerned. Good luck hope it all resolves quickly.

warm moist compresses. Also once you are ready and your surgeon says it is OK, gentle massage and facial muscles exercises can be very helpful.

Re: cheeks
There is a procedure called a buccal lipectomy that can correct "chubby cheeks". It is cosmetic and usually done by plastic surgeons. They remove some of the fat through an incision inside the mouth. This will give your cheekbones more definition.

Re: Jaw Surgery in California Covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shi
There are many postings on this site from patients in CA who have been successful in getting their surgeries covered. CA has some good consumer protection laws which make it difficult for companies to specifically exclude this type of coverage. Of course, it has to be "medically necessary"...
