Hi John, I started out with an open bite, and the quad helix expander I have had in for the past 10 months did make it slightly worse, but I have only had the elastics in for a couple of weeks, and I do see improvement! In the morning is when it looks the best (when I have been sleeping with them in...

Correcting an open bite with front elastics
Hi there, It's been forever since my last post, but I have started a new phase in my treatment, and I wondered if anyone is going through/has been through a similar situation. In an effort to start closing my open bite, I now have to wear elastics in the front of my teeth as often as I can. This is ...

bottom front tooth removal to create space?
Hi, During my last adjustment, my ortho mentioned the possibility of my having a tooth removed to alleviate the crowding I have with my lowers. However, the tooth he would want removed is one of the 4 little ones between the 2 canines (I'm sure they have a name, but I can't think of it right now). I...

Hi Junkee, You know, I just logged on here today after a long absence (the message board was down for a while), and saw your post. I currently have a quad helix, and am 35 yrs old. I had it put in the week before Thanksgiving (2008), and it's supposed to be in for about 6 months. I was also very muc...

Just got the quad helix expander...
Hi, Just came back from my lunchtime ortho appointment to have the quad helix installed (finally). Didn't take long to cement in, and it doesn't seem to be as bad as I thought it was going to be. Granted, it IS annoying...imagine having a couple of bent paperclips in the roof of your mouth all day. ...

Hi Kjaere, Before my upper brackets went on, they put in spacers between both upper and lower molars. This was kind of weird because my lower brackets weren't going on for some time, but they did put the molar bands on. My ortho knew that the expander wasn't going in for a while, so I wonder why I h...

IceBlonde update - spacers again?!
Hi all, I have been MIA for a while, lots of stuff going on...So, I was finally supposed to have my quad helix installed last Friday (my ortho decided to wait a while, and then we waited until I got back from vacation...) It turns out that my crowded teeth pushed my molars back together so tightly t...

got a tiny spring in my archwire
I had to go to my ortho's office last week for an "emergency" (my archwire came unfastened from my back bracket), and my stainy ligs needed changing. He decided to put a tiny coil spring in to help make space for the small tooth to come out from behind my front tooth. Now my not-so-noticea...

Hmmm, it's going to be interesting to see what my expander is going to look like. I have a crossbite/open bite situation, but my 2 front teeth are perfectly straight, to the point that he put those 2 brackets super close to each other so they wouldn't move at all. My side teeth are the ones that rea...

Thanks, Zipp!
Hi, Thanks for the reply! I will admit that I was really concerned about the fact that no one had replied to me :? I guess I am a bit nervous because I haven't found much info for adults over 30 being treated with quad helix appliances...My ortho is very confident, and says he has used these in adul...

over 30 with a quad helix?
Hello, I just got my upper brackets on last week, and had impressions/bands sized for a quad helix expander which will be going in about 3 weeks from now. I have a narrow palate/crossbite, and, as per my ortho's plan, am NOT having expansion surgery or any extractions (I also have all of my wisdom t...

IceBlonde gets braced
Well, today was the day! Got to my ortho's office for my appt; the first thing they did was take out the spacers! Relief! I am so glad that I picked an ortho with a great sense of humor :) He ducks in while the assistant is fitting me for molar bands, looks in my mouth, and jokes, "Oh geez! Wha...
