well I'm talking conventional le fort here. The middle image meryaten shows is the conventional one; the red line show the cut line of the bone itself, but I'm sure that soft tissue/skin above that line is affected, i.e - its looks like there is more fuller? Sure it depends on the amount of advance...

Not to be preachy, but you really should wear a good riding hat. No matter how much you know what you're doing, and how much your horse is a steady one, the unexpected can still happen. I know. I was in 4-H for over 11 years and wore a helmet every time I got on the horse, then once I turned 18 I s...

I did some digging. Of course your mileage may vary, since it will depend how well surgery goes, how well you heal, and how conservative your surgeon is about these things, but Andantae was allowed back to riding at a mere six weeks post-op! There were caveats, so you should take a look at her post...

Its not a horse... but I was back racing and riding motorcycles in 6 weeks or so. At first the helmet was extremely painful because it put pressure on the joint but a week or two of that and I was good. :) I am a fast healer tho. Thanks! I stopped wearing a helmet a few years ago, but after this su...

Anyone else ride horses? How long until I can ride again?
I haven't asked my doctor yet, I will at my next appointment. I forgot to ask him today at this one. I had surgery November 6th, Lefort 1. Everything is healing as it is supposed to. But, I want to know if anyone here rides how long it took you to get back to riding? I actually won't be back around ...

I just had a lefort Osteotomy [upper maxillary impaction] on novemember 6th. I had lip incompetence and lip strain that made me look like I was frowning all the time, plus a LOT of gum showing when I smiled. The surgery went well, and I haven't been in too much pain in the jaw iteself. Mine have bee...

Extreme sensitivity of bottom teeth after upper jaw surgery?
I had a lefort osteotomy on Nov 6th. It went well, but I was only banded once on each side. I could open my mouth quite a bit. My bite wasn't lining up so on Thursday he put three more bands on, pretty heavy, and all across my front teeth and sides. And now my front lower teeth feel like they're bei...

Thank you! :) My husband got stationed in Mira Mar, but not until Jan so I was freaking out a bit because it took a long time to get approved [well, just to get in and get an appt!] and so I'm moving back to Lejuene to get my surgery done before he is stationed on the West Coast. I don't want to ris...

Anyone had their surgery done by military doctors?
I am married to a marine, and the surgery I'm having [Leforte 1 + BSSO] is being done by the Naval Medical center where my husband is stationed. Has anyone else had their surgery done via the military? Do you think that military doctors are as good as civilian doctors, or vice versa? My surgeon seem...

Thank you, Ozzysmom! That clears it up, I thought a BSSO just pushed the lower jaw forward. Mine will need to be brought back because with the Leforte 1 by itself my lower jaw would rotate and move foward and that isn't wanted. I have two or three appointments with my surgeon before my date [surgery...

Got a surgery date. And I was told a BSSO?
I think I heard "BSSO" this morning, they called at 5:45 am because I'm on the west coast and they are on the east coast. That's news to me, I thought it was a LEfort 1. Are they the same? I actually talked to my surgeon the other day himself, and he said that we might want to do more than...
