Never been an issue for me either, but as lionfish pointed out...the cat is a different story, ours likes to lick faces at night and purr and paw you. If you dont get up for him, he knocks lamps over.

My ortho's office has said never ever cut the wire yourself, if it flies back (i guess the clipping) it can lodge in your mouth or gums and cause all sorts of problems. I told them I was going to bend it myself one day and they were all shocked and said it only takes a minute to clip them so if they...

I had my top two teeth out in May. The looped wire was put in, in June and I wore it until November. It did wonders, I got it back in Feb, I want them off by June so we are finishing my small gaps up using the loops. I really like it, very fast results.

There is a tool, but I don't believe it is called a hemostat...those are plyers used in labs. They are long.

I just use my fingers. I need a mirror though. Mine hook to my last molars.

The closing loop wire has been used on my uppers since my extractions in June-November. Great Results in a short time, then it was taken off for my second molars to be banded and it was put back on in Feb, I actually asked for it to go back on, as ugly as it is it gets the job done.

I believe it also depends on the type of braces you have, the self-ligating braces allow for longer intervals between appointments. I have regular ceramics, and I go every 4 weeks. At a time in the beginning it was every 6, but I was happy when I started going every 4.
