As of yesterday, I'm in Chimpanzees. And I sure do hate them. My first day in elastics was worse than my first day in braces, by a large margin. It was also my first day in powerchains. I thought the chains might be a source of much of the discomfort, but when I took the elastics off to eat it felt ...

I took the day off to get my braces on, but it was a waste of a vacation day. I could have gone straight to work with no problem.

1. adopt a bland coloured diet (yes, tomato can stain) 2. decide you don't care about staining 3. wear bold coloured ligs that won't stain 4. ask your ortho if he would use wire ties (though many reserve the use of these for clinical not cosmetic purposes) I have chosen option 2. I've only been bra...

Hopefully someone who knows more than me will chime in. I have no experience, just a guess based on what I've read online. My guess is that the braces stay, as you said, to have a place for the elastics to attach. But they don't want your teeth to keep moving, so the retainer is to hold them in plac...

Like lenoro, I have huge buildups on my back molars. At least, they feel huge to me. This makes my face look a little longer. Also like lenoro, I had a very round face before braces, so this is a good thing.

I had just the tiniest bit of a lisp before I got braced. Now I have a very noticeable lisp. My "S's" actually whistle a bit. But I just got braced yesterday and I'm hoping that will diminish with practice.

How long is your treatment predicted to be?
This is the PowerProx (six month braces) system. But my dentist says for me it will take 9 or 10 months.

Brace Day!

I got my braces today. So far everything is fine. But eating isn't as much fun as it used to be.

Newbie introducing myself

Hi everyone. I just joined the forum and wanted to de-lurk. I'm 51 years old and I've always hated my crooked teeth. I've finally decided to do something about it. Earlier this week I had a consult with a dentist in Raleigh who does the Powerprox system. With my issues she says it will take longer t...
