Re: JULY 2010 BUDDIES!!!!

Hello July 2010 Buddies!

I got my braces off in December. I just posted on the forum to report on my 1 year post-surgery consultation. All is going well, except I still have some slight swelling which will still take time to go away apparently.

Does anyone else still have swelling?

1 year post-op update - still slight swelling but worth it!

It's now nearly a year since my surgery (upper + lower + genio) - I saw my surgeon today for the one year follow-up. He studied my x-rays and said they were 'textbook'!! I've had my braces off since December :D My surgeon agreed that I still have some swelling around my nose/cheeks and said it will ...

Re: December debrace club

That's fantastic koffymasheen! Glad to hear how worth it it is. My date is just over a week away now - I totally can't believe the day is finally coming.

Hi VikingGir l, As someone who had surgery the same week as you, I have actually thought the same thing about my cheeks. Until I read your post I assumed it was swelling, because my surgeon told me that the swelling around the nose takes the longest to go and will be present for several months. I'm ...

Countdown til de-banding!

It's been a while since I've posted but just wanted to update on my progress. I had double jaw surgery and genio on 9th July. And I have a debracing date for mid-December!! My ortho told me 6-9 months of braces after surgery, so I'm stoked to be getting them off only 5 months after :) I have had one...

Hi redfoxjo, Happy to help! I did have to sleep upright for the first 6 nights or so. One thing that was very helpful was a neck pillow - supporting my neck made all the difference and actually allowed me to sleep. I hardly slept the first 3-4 nights though. I woke up every couple of hours for paink...

You will be absolutely fine. It will be over before you know it. In a way, being scared is a good thing because it's unlikely the reality will live up to your expectations. My experience certainly wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be - and I had double jaw too. Just be prepared to be very t...

Well my latest news is that I've developed a lump in my lower jaw which turns out to be an inflamed lymph node. My surgeon said that they can sometimes react by turning into marbles! So I'm back on antibiotics as a precaution. It doesn't hurt unless I touch it but I was a bit worried for a while tha...

I'm glad to read that everyone is doing well. I'm 4 weeks post-op today. I'm still tired but otherwise fine. I'm even eating relatively normal food - I now have elastics from my orthodontist and they are much springier and allow for a lot more movement than the ones from my surgeon. (I never had a s...

Two weeks post-op and feeling fine

It's hard to believe that two weeks ago I was lying in hospital, swollen and out of it, after double jaw surgery and genio to correct my underbite. Now I'm pretty much feeling fine! I'm still fairly tired but I've been ok going out in public for a few days now. There's still some swelling around my ...

Hi mitchejk, Glad you're going well. The numbness is annoying but not as bad as being totally numb. I'm so jealous you're on to soft foods! Does this mean you can chew? I was given a heads up about staining, and hence have been using Curasept, which is a non-staining chlorhexidine rinse. Also I rins...

isolde and James0099 , sending you best wishes for your surgery. It will be over before you know it. Remember, the first 4 days are the worst. After that, it really does get better. In retrospect, the first week flew by. I'm now 11 days post-op, and feeling fine, although weak from existing on pure...

I had my first follow up appointment today, 5 days post op, and my surgeon was very pleased with things. He said my bite is perfect! He put looser elastics on and I am to see him again in a week. Also, the sleeping situation has resolved somewhat - I've been sleeping with a neck pillow. The swelling...
