Cracked retainer

My clear essix retainer for my lowers cracked last night when I was cleaning it. It now has a tear of a couple of mm in it. I wore it to sleep and it felt the same and the crack didn't seem to gape when it was on. Does anyone know if this can just be mended or I'll need a completely new retainer? My...

Hi I was told that if I was going to have fixed braces they would only be on the top front six. I only needed two of the front teeth straightening. Sorry, I don't know how this would have worked, but thought I'd just mention that my ortho was going to do this too. Btw, I didn't opt for fixed braces ...

Thank you for the reply. I'll see if we have them in the UK.

Hi daffodil2 If you see some of my previous posts you'll see I had similar worries after my treatment. I had an Inman aligner on my upper teeth and my very slightly crowded lower teeth straightened with a couple of clear aligners (like invisalign). During treatment I was a bit freaked out by the upp...

My Photos

I've put together a little before and after album but can't post a link on here because I haven't made enough posts yet.

But if anyone would like to have a look - send me a PM and I'll send you a link and a password. :)

I found the lisp difficult too. The first two weeks were the worst and it did get better, but the lisp was still there. I only had one person be rude about it (a hospital receptionist who just gave me a really horrible "what on earth are you saying?" look when I tried to ask her something)...

Grinding more?

I've been wearing my essix retainers nightly for about three months now (upper and lower) and I've always been a tooth grinder - but i find I'm grinding more now! As well as being a bit stressed at the moment I seem to find the retainers very 'chewy' and seem to be clenching on them a lot in my slee...

I've kept my Inman too. I was told I could use it if - in the future - I had any relapse. I've opted for the clear plastic retainers because I had them anyway as part of my treatment and an ortho I saw for a consult didn't recommend the fixed retainers as, in his experience, they occasionally snappe...

I think you're right on both accounts. I've also had the comment "I didn't notice anything wrong with your teeth". Yes, because I made sure no one could see them!

Thank you jules04!

I just had a few comments from people and thinking about it it's probably because they're a bit jealous. Some people don't like it when you improve yourself do they? !

You inman took 5 months? oh boy - i thought i'd be done in 4. Was yours a protusive case Betty? Actually it was probably nearer to 4 months. That was moving one tooth (the upper front) back about 4-5mm. And I didn't wear the appliance for as long as I should have done in the last few weeks. The fin...

Fixed braces aren't "tightened" these days, Betty - not in the crank down on the wire and pull up any slack sense. They change to a new wire periodically, but the change in force applied is not so marked as you might think. :) The forces applied throughout treatment are fairly low, and co...

Thank you for the replies. I imagine it might take longer for my teeth to settle down because I'm 30+ too. Sorry I got you worrying too buzz31. If it's any consolation the uppers I had treated with the Inman don't feel loose. I also remember reading a post (on this thread I'm sure) where someone had...

Betty are you worried about them being loose? Thanks for the reply. I had one tooth that was 6mm overjet moved back. They were loose during treatment. I finished in September. Feel a little bit sensitive sometimes - nothing awful - just different to before treatment. More the whole tooth and biting...

Sorry to be repeating myself, but does anyone else worry that moving the teeth this quickly is bad for them?

Did anyone ask their ortho or dentist this question?

Would be really grateful for a reply! :D
