I don't notice the slime problem but I do have the excess saliva. Some days are worse than others. It seems that if I have to do alot of talking it is worse. At times I tend to spit when I talk.....I spend alot of time apologizing.

I seldom have a lot of pain. The worst was the 24 hrs after I had the lower brackets put on. I consider myself lucky.

I only have the 6 front top teeth braced now but I also have been and will continue to wear bite plates for awhile. I have noticed a strange taste and food is not as tasty as it used to be. I sometimes do have a metallic taste.

I have had spints for many years. Are the prongs that go between your teeth tight enough? If my splint is loose I tend to unconsciously play with it with my tongue and move my jaw around. That makes everything worse. I have been known to flick it out in the night.

I agree with Sak. I think it will probably go away when you adjust to the braces. You really should contact your dentist anyway.

Is it possible your daughter is having second thoughts about the braces? You didn't mention her age but perhaps someone at school is giving her a hard time.

I am 55 and have been dealing with TMJ and splits for 17 years and 4 dentists. Finally have my pain in control with lower splint during the day and upper splint at night.
