Well, I had nearly desisted myself because I thought why should I get braces at my age when half of my life (thinking positvely) had past?! Then my (ex) significant other convinced me that I deserved a smile I could be proud of rather than hiding my smile behind lips. And you know what? she was righ...

I had mine (Damon braces) put in Medellin, Colombia while living abroad. My ortho, though I didn't know him came highly recommended by my (then) girlfriend and her sister and to tell you the truth I am overly satisfied with the cost and the service. Previous to that I had had a first-hand evaluation...

When you fly with braces at high altitudes they tend to expand and cause horrible pain :O Just kidding! no problem at all flying with braces. I have crossed the Atlantic several times even after adjustments and minor mouth surgery (related to orthodontic treatment) and never had a problem. Don't kno...

Blossom, congratulations on your new journey towards a comfortable smile. For so many years I smiled without showing my teeth only because they were out of place. Like you I took the plunge with Damon braces (see my blog for more details). The first days were the most painful, also after the wire is...

Well I hope not but I won't know until my next appt. in June. Anyway probably not because the brackets are very low on the front teeth and the HG is not supposed to touch them, pfew! On the other hand I guess my biggest worry is the actual big surgery (I guess HG is nothing compared to that). Anyway...

I am having my treatment done in Colombia with an excellent orthodontist. It will cost me around USD 3,000 not including the orthognathic surgery I will need (yeah, I know, unlucky me). And this with a Damon system which is typically a bit more expensive.

Will I be headgeared after extraction?

To begin with I am adult (wow!) already into my 5th month of braces. I thought I had past the most painful pre-op period after having some surgery to reduce the split between the two upper teeth until.... I heard two of my upper teeth were going to be removed 6 months later :-( I am not really very ...

Yes, I have tried both ENSURE and ENTEREX preparations that can be used as supplement as well as food replacement. I use it as supplement.

These are great products but just when I had finally gained 2 kilograms I injured my back and have lost them, back to 63 kg. :-(

A journey that seems too long

I did get my braces at 45 mainly out of necessity to spare me from dental suffering later on in life. Today it has been 4 months and 2 days since I got the braces on, a long journey with some painful things such as replacing archwires, fraenum surgery and upcoming removal of two upper teeth :-( When...

Braces and my journey towards orthognathic surgery

In short, the beginnings of a 1+ year journey leading to orthognatic (lower jaw advancement) surgery. I figured I wanted to document my progress on this journey I never expected to do...

Braced at 45 and condemned to surgery

I knew I needed braces for a long long long time but other things in life always took priority which compounded the problems over the years: 1. Front upper teeth had an overbite that became larger over the years 2. Front upper teeth had an enlarging split (3mm or so) that grew over the years and the...

So what is the authoritative answer? can we laugh after surgery or not???? I had some minor surgery on my palate and fraenum and some of my future relatives were brightening my days by making me laugh and my God, it was PAINFUL! at one time I even started bleeding when the stitches where stretching ...

I already have TMJ, teeth worn out, pains in the neck, etc. Two years ago I chickened out when I heard I needed this surgery. And to think of doing that and recovering all by myself (I live abroad) was not a pretty thought. Now 2+ years down the lane my fiancée gave me the guts to go for it. I am h...
