I'm 23 days post-op and my nostrils are also a bit wider. I always thought my nose was a bit to narrow for my face, now I think its a bit to wide. It's funny because although I'm not too impressed with my nose shape right now everyone has complemented on how cute it looks. It's true though you'll pr...

I had a choice. My surgeon said if I got wired shut there was a 1% chance of nerve damage from Lefort 1 and IVRO surgery. However, if I chose a BSSO with Lefort 1 my mouth would stay open but the chance of nerve damage went up to 15%. I chose the safer route and got wired shut. There is also alot le...

Here's some before and after pics. The before pics were taken before I left for the hospital and the after pics were taken today, 4 days after surgery. The swelling is still pretty bad but I was honestly expecting alot worse. The meds are doing a good job keeping the pain away and I've been getting ...

Here's my before and afters. Sorry They're so big, idk how to shrink the image size, if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. I don't have a good profile pic from before my operation, but I can say, even with the swelling I think my profile is already looking better than before. http://i98.photo...

I'm 4 days post-op for underbite surgery on both my top and bottom jaws. Pre-surgery when I smiled or talked my lower lip would dip to the right a bit and show off my crossbite. Now, I still see the lip dipping a bit but I'm guessing/hoping its because I'm so swelled up at the moment. Although it's ...

Well guys I'm officially underbite free!! I had a Lefot 1 and an IVRO procedure (I originally thought i was getting a BSSO) this past monday July 27 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY. The surgery lasted 5 hours. To my suprise, and to the suprise of my surgeon and his large staff I was talking ...

Well I'm going for surgery on Monday. I was approved by insurance on July 14, on July 21 I went for my pre-op with blood drawn, molds and pictures taken, and facial measurements. Now this Monday, July 27th I will be getting my lower jaw moved back 2-3mm and my upper advanced 5mm. Initally my surgeon...

Surgery without braces?
Well was I pleasantly shocked yesterday..I went for a surgical consultation at Monteifore Oral and Maxillofacial center in the Bronx, NY. The first thing the doctor told me is that braces are not always mandatory prior to surgery and about 10-15% of his patients can forego braces and just get the su...

I've actually heard of this being done several times now. Apparently it is a new practice and is gaining in popularity. As for the pros and cons, well I'm not sure. It sounds great in theory, but almost too good to be true. If this option were presented to me I may very well take it, however I need ...

Mandibular Setback and wisdom teeth
I'm going for my surgery consultation this Tuesday and will more than likely need a mandibular setback to fix my underbite. My ortho says my teeth are in relatively good position and will only need about 3-4 months of braces before surgery. However, she also says I will need my wisdom teeth extracte...

While I haven't got it done yet my ortho says that is what I will probrally need. She estimates my lower jaw will be moved back about 4-5mms. The best part though, I will only need braces for about 2-3 months prior to surgery as my teeth are nearly in great position. In a perfect world I wouldn't ev...

Well just got back from the ortho. She let me take home the pictures, X-rays, and molds of my top and bottom jaw. According to my ortho she thinks I may only need braces for 2-3 months tops. Unlike many underbiters my lower teeth are very minimally retroclined and my uppers are in perfect position. ...

Hello shakebake, like you I'm also a Class III underbiter who will begin my braces journey soon. Like you surgery was recommended but I will more than likely go the braces + extractions route. I always had a slight to moderate lisp growing up. I took speech classes from kindergarden through 5th grad...
