Re: Calling All Hawley Retainer Wearers--Help Please.
My ortho told me the ONLY proper way was using the two loops. I have two loops on my top hawley above my canines, and similar loops over my bottom canines. I push down on the loops to get the top off, and push up on the bottoms to get the bottom out. I was told never to take the retainer out by push...

All Finished! Before and Afters!
I'm ALL DONE hurray!
After almost THREE years with an estimate of two -_- BUT definitely worth every minute and every penny. My treatment cost me $4,500. I have upper and lower hawleys now. I'm totally satisfied with my results!

Re: Nervous about debanding?
Mine did NOT feel like they were "ripped off" either. Is there pressure? Is it not the BEST feeling in the world? Well duh, yeah. But it did not feel like my teeth were being torn out of my mouth or anything like that at all. Press against one of your teeth right now a little. That's about...

I'm FREE!
I don't lisp very badly with my retainers in either, which is good since I work in retail right now.

Re: Re:
One thing I can confirm for SURE is that the recessed gum I had on my lower right front incisor is really, truly getting better! This is likely due to better dental hygiene and keeping plaque away from it. It has basically healed all on its own nearly up to where the tooth beside it is! And to thin...

I only get positive reactions and curiosity from kids "What's on your teeth" is the most common question I get, and I explain they are called braces, and they are making my teeth straight. The kids love the colors and they'll notice when you get them changed!

Re: essix and pregnancy ??
It's just plastic. You'll be fine. Plastic is not the evil, poisonous monster some people make it out to be. The plastic used for essix retainers is safe to be in your body and does not leak chemicals into your mouth. If it did, it would not be legal.

I graduated to thicker elastics at my last appointment! My open bite on the left and right is almost gone! Wonky tooth is still tipped inward but my ortho must not think it's that big of a deal so I've stopped worrying about it. My bite feels GREAT.

Re: Crib, not made for sleeping.
The crib is to stop you from sucking your thumb, isn't it? You've got something like this, I suspect: http://library.thinkquest.org/5029/mjpho12.jpg It is eeevil looking but it's to stop your thumb sucking habit! No point straightening your teeth if you're going to stick your thumb in there! And you...

Re: Braces with Gastric Band
My mom also has a band, so I know exactly what you're talking about. Your diet the first few days after adjustments should remind you of your diet the first few weeks after your band went it! Liquids, soft foods, etc. Protein shakes to the rescue! Once your mouth stops hurting, chewing is not an iss...

Re: Braces r off!
If you were braced after puberty, then you wear retainers for as long as you want your teeth to be straight! Adults have a high chance of relapse. I've been told that when I do get retainers, it will be 24/7 for a certain amount of time, and then at night for the rest of my life - or until I want cr...

Re: Do your teeth move right after adjustment?
My teeth FLEW through my mouth when I first got braces! Whoosh! One tooth literally shot up at least a centimeter in 4-8 weeks! I could almost stare in the mirror and watch them move lol. It's totally normal in the beginning of treatment! Now I'm at the end of treatment and I swear my teeth swapped ...
