I'll try to dig out the 'before' pic. After should be easy enough!

I have a series of appointments with my dentist post braces off to finish everything off and my hygienist is chomping at the bit to sit me down for a hour even though my gum health has improved beyond belief with braces on!!

Where did all the time go?

I can't believe my last post was Aug 2009 - 4 months into my treatment! Time flies when your teeth are moving  Anyhow, I'm amazed at how well the treatment has gone - so well that I have my braces off date already - September 28th, just over 3 weeks to go. Had my final adjustment last week, jus...

So finding it hard to chew food (I will definitely lose weight during all of this) I drop a few pounds after every adjustment but there was quite a bit of me that disappeared when the upper brace went on. I find that I'm more picky about what I eat now and tend to eat healthier foods (apart from de...

4 Months In

Hi all, Just wanted to post an update since I'm only a few days off 4 months into my experience with braces at the ripe old age of 40  I had the upper brace put on in April and the lower one only went on this week after some space had been created. The results on the upper teeth has been amaz...

I e-mailed Water Pik and got this response (info for other users of the Cordless Ultra): We recommend cleaning the unit with a vinegar and water solution. 1. Use 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to 500 ML of water. 2. Run about ½ of the solution through the unit and then stop and let stand for about ...

I really like the rechargeable Water Pik - I think it's great for a quick clean up after meals. One question to other owners though - what have you found is the best way to clean the water tank ? I'd like to give it a clean since it'll have little bits of standing water in it throughout the day and ...

Yeah, I seem to be missing a few pounds at the moment. The lack of snacking and the porridge/soup/yoghurt diet probably accounts for that :D No bad thing, I won't miss them and hope they're soon joined by a few friends. Work has been strange - I was a little nervous about reactions to the brace but ...

Popped a bracket

5 days in an my first little snag-ette. I was sitting in the office today and felt a click followed by a change in the pressure on one tooth. Bracket had come away from a tooth. Strangely that tooth is now the only one that's slightly sore. Back into the Ortho on Thursday to have it re-attached. Ah ...

I think it's probably different for many people. I guess what we were getting at was that the pain level is relative to past experiences or even just being braced as a child. I was braced briefly as an early teenager and I remember if being a pretty horrid and uncomfortable experience - like having ...

I think you're correct there - it isn't too bad at the moment (4 days in) and it's very manageable with a little Ibuprofen.

Eating is still a bit of an experience but I'm sure that will improve over time.

What an odd experience! I just ate dinner for the first time following my top braces being put on and it is truly strange! I was very aware that I couldn't really bite down and it took a while to be comfortable chewing. But cauliflower cheese and sausages wrapped in Parma ham (wonderful combo) never...

I'll do that - I got some wax in the pack from the Orthodontist.

Unexpected top brace!

I had my first treatment appointment today and went in to the 30 minute appointment expecting spacers or some other prep-work. Nope! Top brace is now on :D No spacers, no bands on the molars. 45 minutes later I was sitting chatting to the assistant about looking after everything. I have the Clarity ...

What, time already? !!

It only seems like yesterday that I signed the consent forms for the ortho treatment but I'm now only three days away from the first proper treatment appointment!

I wonder what it will be, spacers or will I come away with some other hardware :D

Exciting stuff for this 40yr old!

I'm lucky on that front - I had 4 premolars (2 top 2 bottom) and lower impacted wisdoms removed nearly 20 years ago so my orthodontist is aiming for extraction free treatment. I switched dentists late last year (hence the renewed focus on doing something) and the hygienist is really on the ball. She...
