Hi blindboarder, I was part of the June crew but actually had my surgery July 1. Things are going pretty well. I'm still in my braces, but will hopefully have them off in a few months. My midlines are off just a tad so my ortho still wants me in 2 rubber bands in back and one across the front. It's ...

post surgery bump on upper jaw/gumline

Hi there, I had a Lefort 1 in July of 09. Everything has been great. In the last few days I notice a bump on the upper part of my gum. It's kind of annoying and thought it might be a canker (sp?) sore. When I went to my ortho for an adjustment on my braces he said he thinks it might be one of plates...

Thank you for all of your replies! I have been opening my jaw and really pushing through the pain. I hold it open to the count of ten and then relax. I will continue to work the muscles and then touch base with my oral surgeon. I hope that I get close to my presurgery range of motion. I have to get ...

how far can you open your mouth?

Hi, I had my upper jaw surgery in July. Lately, I have been concerned about how far I can open my jaw. I'm worried it's never going to go back to pre-surgery range of motion. I can only get 2 fingers in my mouth after almost 4 months? When I try and open real wide it feels like it's going to break (...

Hi there, Yes, this happened to me as well. After I went to my orthodontist I woke up in extreme pain. (felt like someone was stabbing into my right side - near my ear) He had changed my rubberband configuration. My OS mentioned that it might be pulling on my TM joint. I went to see my OS the next d...

upper jaw range of motion

To fellow upper jaw surgery patients, How long did it take to get more range of motion? I still can only open my jaw so far. I had my surgery on July 1st. I had my upper jaw surgery due to a very small palate, open bite, cross bite, etc. I used to only chew on the left side of my mouth because my te...

Glad to hear everything went well. It sounds like you had upper and lower jaw surgery. I had a Lefort 1 (upper) on July 1st. Things are moving along pretty well. I can relate to the stuffy nose! I thought I was going to lose my mind! The saline just wasn't cutting it. I had my sister in law call my ...

8 week Lefort 1 question?

Anyone out there that had a Lefort 1? I am 8 weeks post op and having a little trouble with a stuffy nose. I can feel this yucky taste at the back of my mouth. (post sinus drip ?) I'm a little leary of blowing my nose. I just had a check up with my Dr. and he said sometimes the sinuses are inflamed ...

6 week post op question

Hi there, A question for fellow post op patients: I had a Lefort 1 (upper jaw) surgery on July 1st. I am still having a lot of numbness on my right cheek. (not my lips or chin) It's a weird almost stiff feeling. My left cheek is not numb. When I try to smile my left side moves but my right side does...

My surgery was July 1, 2009 and I'm still swollent too! That's great to hear about your hiking adventure. My swelling is in my cheeks! I look like a little chipmunk. :-) I am so excited about my bite. My teeth are actually touching on both sides too. My OS told me if I were in my 20's and not my 40'...

You asked about brushing your teeth. I used a baby toothbrush. I only brushed the outside of my teeth. I did rinse quite frequently to keep the inside somewhat clean. I was really worried because I had my wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. I was worried about infection. I have had not one prob...
