How long do fixed retainers usually last for?
My question is really about the quality and how resilient they are, rather than how long I have to wear them for. The glue has come off of my upper and lower ones a few times in the last 3 years. I believe this might be down to the orthodontist I was seeing in the UK being in a rush in his busy prac...

Wow, that's a big difference. My question to you then is did you notice a big difference to how your top lip (mouth area) looked from a side profile after your overjet was pulled in?? I believe I am at least 6mm overjet, possibly 7mm. The shape is pretty much a U shape. I have gaps between my teeth,...

I'm in the UK. Most consultations here are not free, but I was not charged for the one I had on the national health system here. Unfortunately I was refused treatment and I did not have this question on my mind at that time. He told me I did not really need the lower arch done. I will only need the ...

Weak Chin and effects of reducing overjet?
I am thinking of getting braces for my upper arch and am trying to anticipate how this might make the rest of my face look different, if at all. From searching the forums it seems that this can make a weak jawline look slightly better, but would this also change the way my nose looks in relation to ...

This is all very useful guys because I'll know what to say when I am eventually seen. I wonder what they'd think if I complained that my teeth cannot meet at the front. Is that such a strange request - that I would like to be able to put my upper and lower front teeth together which I cannot physica...

Exactly, it just wasn't the done thing in inner London when I was a kid. I remember a girl mentioning my teeth to me when I was about 9, but since no other kids ever had braces I never thought about it again. It probably would have led to bullying. I think even if they were offered to me back then I...

Hi Lucy, I had read your diary before I made my post last night. That's the worst of being referred to the wrong place or not having the referral made; it takes months to find out what's going on. The above post was very helpful. That is the first time I have ever tried to measure my overbite and it...

I'm from London and am having a nightmare trying to get referred. My dentist seemed to think orthodontic treatment was not available for adults on the NHS so refused to refer me. I then checked with Guys Hospital and was told it was possible and that I should get the referral done through my GP. Unf...
