NHS UK surgery

Hello all, I am just wondering whether anyone can clarify this situation for me and put my mind at ease. Basically, I have been suffering with TMJ problems and associated functional symptoms for many years now. Orthodontics alone have not corrected this. I have been told that the possibility of my T...

Measurement that enables you to qualify for NHS treatment?

Hello, I have heard that there is a certain measurement that enables patients to qualify for NHS treatment for braces and jaw surgery in the UK. Can anybody please tell me what this measurement is? I heard the measurement being taken on my intial appointment at the hospital, however, I do not know w...

Cost of surgery as a private patient in the UK?

Dear all, I am currently having treatment on the NHS. I have had my braces for 22 months now and this treatment was done via a private orthodontist. After the orthodontist could no longer do anymore, my GP doctor referred me to an NHS dental hospital. However, being on the NHS I have just had my int...

Confused

I have been in braces for 20 months. After being referred, I have just had my initial consultation with a consultant. 4 Weeks later, I have so far received nothing. Is this normal? Or should I have been expecting a following appointment/letter in the post within this time? I do understand that the c...

Yes i would think so. I have an open bite i believe my measurement was 12mm and i qualify for NHS treatment. I dont know how much movement there will be through wearing the braces but there hasn't been any question about if i am covered by nhs. Your OD should be able to advise you on your specific ...

15mm jaw misalignment qualify for surgery?

Hi,

Basically my right jaw is longer than my left jaw by 15mm. I also have a slight open-bite.

Is the 15mm severe enough to qualify for surgery on the nhs?

I am in the same position. I am being treated by an orthodontist who I find to be very money-motivated. I am in more pain, discomfort, a bite that does not even fit together no longer and far worse than I was initially. It is a very unfortunate position to be in. I have approached by dentist who rep...

Bracing causes jaw alignment to worsen?

I have had my braces in for 18 months now. I have heard that having braces can align the teeth making them more straight, but the appearance of the bite in the mouth worsens - This seems to be the case here, as the teeth alignment is straight, but the bite/jaw alignment has deviated more towards the...

So long as they have all the necessary records, and your surgeon/ortho are happy that you're due for surgery, it's all a matter of when your particular hospital/surgeon are free. For instance I met my surgeon last November when my ortho decided I was surgery-ready, and he just rang the hospital to ...

How long?

Firstly, I am based in the UK and under the NHS system. I have an open bite and slight under bite which is not as worse as the open bite/facial assymetry/jaw ache and pain. I have had my braces in for 18 months. It's my 2nd time in braces. I will soon be referred to a surgeon as my orthodontist has ...

Basically, because I was past age 18 I had to pay for my orthodontic treatement the 2nd time around with my savings. It just breaks my heart that once the braces are taken off, I will be back at square 1. During the time I had the braces put on approximately 1 year ago, I was very optimistic that th...

How should I pursue this?

I have a misaligned jaw and an open bite. My face is very assymmetrical as one side if flatter with hardly any cheek. When I put two fingers into my ears and my thumbs on the corner of my jaw, the flatter side of my face I presume is the jaw that is approx 1 inch longer. Basically I have had TMJ pro...

I had my braces at Crewe hospital and my brilliant surgeon works out of Chester and Liverpool hospitals if that is any help. I was treated on the NHS... Hi Polly, Thanks for replying. I am actually based not far from you, but I was referred to another hospital. I'm not even sure whether I should na...

After you mentioned the panoramic camera thing, I actually remember having those x-rays done the for the 1st orthodontic treatment. I am quite disgusted frankly, that for the 2nd orthodontic treatment 'at the same orthodontic practice, by the same orthodontist' has not given me a single x-ray before...

Hello. Thanks to everybody replying to this thread. I know that already the NHS does treat adult patients with problems considered severe. I do believe I should have got the 2nd orthodontic treatment on the NHS, however, nobody wanted to know or help my case. To speed things up before leaving the pr...
