Completely understandable... I was terrified before surgery and it was all I could think about. I remember waking up in recovery and just being so happy that it was over and I survived... I was babbling away to the nurse in a drug-induced haze! I'm pretty sure I made no sense!! Looking back I wish s...

I agree with the post above.. it really depends on the surgery you are getting etc. etc. I had lower jaw surgery, but was not banded shut. My surgeon had told me to take 2-3 weeks off work, so I took 2. I probably only needed 1 though, as I felt fine and was off pain killers. I had a bit of leftover...

Wow, congrats to you for making it through so long with your jaw wired or banded shut!! I can't imagine how tough it is...I wasn't wired or banded at all, and still I complained about the diet! As for the chewing, I'm just over 2 weeks post op and am still really struggling with trying to chew anyth...

My midline was off by about 3mm after surgery.
I had elastics put on one week after to correct it (annoying and painful - but not unbearable) and will wear them for at least 6 weeks, to my next ortho appointment.

Its great to hear everyone is improving in their respective stages! I am on my 4th day post-op and feeling way better than I ever expected! I only had my lower jaw moved forward as opposed to both, which probably helps though. I got discharged from hospital yesterday, so am a bit wary as to the diff...

In answer to you sadpanda I'll give you the whole saga! (And my apologies, I don't know or remember any of the technical terms) I originally sought a ortho consult because my front top teeth were angled in (the opposite of buck teeth!) and resting on my bottom teeth, this was causing the enamel to w...

Wow, thanks so much for the support and the good stories! Sometimes all you hear are the horror stories which are not helpful when already freaking out. I saw my surgeon yesterday, and today have felt like the cloud of fear and anxiety that has been with me all week has just dissappeared... I know i...

Any regrets??

I have been braced for over a year and now have a surgery date for August 27, and Im starting to have serious second thoughts! I need to have my lower jaw moved forward 9mm, I will not be wired, will need to spend 1 to 2 nights in hospital, and take 2 weeks off work... These are the things I know bu...

My 1st Braces-versary! The things I have discovered...

Hi, I've been in braces for one year today, and in order to celebrate or reflect on this milestone I thought I would share some of the unexpected things I have learned about being in braces. The things all the pamphlets in the world don't tell you!! Please add some of your own... - There is hardly a...

I travelled across Europe in braces, and though I'm not suggesting it is at all like India in terms of wealth, there were lots of braces. I would gesture to my braces and theirs with a big smile or a thumbs up... a great ice breaker where language is a barrier!!

My little braces quirk is every now and again I whistle when I try and pronounce a word! I can't stop laughing when it happens. It's sort of become a running joke!!!

I know exactly what you are talking about... my ortho put all these extra wires on one of my front teeth because it was lagging behind the other. At my next appointment he had to cut them all off and put them on the other because it had over-corrected and was now too far ahead! Slowly they are now a...

Sick of having to justify braces!

I've been in braces for 7 months now and am really happy with the progress that has already been made, and I have personally gotten over most of the embarrasment in letting people see I have braces. But one thing that does bother me is the fact that I have had several occasions (usually with work pp...
