Hi, Lori I hope everything goes well from here on in without any further complications. You sound like a phenomenoly well organised and prepared person. But I suppose that in itself is a trait that can lead to more hesitancy - someone who thinks and plans in advance is probably more likely to forsee...

This is something I've wondered about too. Only one of my wisdom teeth ever errupted so I don't know if any of the other three were just absent, sitting in my jaws or impacted (impacted means they're pushing into a second molar, doesn't it?). I'm concerned on two fronts: one, that some will try to c...

What if you throw jaw surgery into that equation? If someone has a considerable overjet due to mandibular retrognathism and has their lower jaw moved forward surgically does stability increase considerably? I would have thought the addition of surgery to the treatment would have dramatically improve...

I've never been there but don't the poeple in the Channel Islands speak with an English accent - thinking Bergerac here. :D Maybe that's why people always casually assume they're part of England.

I think the inhabitants of the Isle of Mann also have an English sounding accent.

Thanks for the reassuring replies. :) Yeah, I find it hard to believe that jaw surgery and orthodontics would be a no no if your gums/teeth were less than perfect. After all, these things can be treated separately and ultimately the surgery might be necessary to alleviate a functional problem that's...

I'm not in England but Ireland - Northern Ireland - instead. However, we have the NHS here too so I'm in a similar boat if I decide to go down that route. I will be going across to Southampton, England - next week - if that counts. [quote=electrokitty]I do see lots of adults where I think &qu...

I've read about people that have cut their own lingual frenulums (the one that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth). One guy who was into piercing got a tatooist to cut through his after applying a clamp on each side of it. Apparently  it's not that painful but you need to put some ...

I'm 27 and I've only just started flossing regularly. When I was a child my dental hygiene was quite good but in my later teens I began to let things go - especially when I had braces. I ended up skipping cleaning my teeth on days and then only in the mornings as I'd sit up late and be too tired to ...

Do receded gums rule out orthodontics?

When I was a kid my routine of dental hygiene wasn’t great. Often I’d skip cleaning my teeth at night only to ‘make up’ for this by brushing my teeth overly severely the next morning. When I got braces in my teens this behaviour was amplified as I found cleaning more cumbersome; I lazily avo...

Hi, Amanda The expansion in your palate has been amazing for there to have been no surgery. I'm assuming you're not an adult otherwise the bones in your palate would have presumably fused by now, making an non-surgical expansion like this impossible. Or maybe I'm wrong - are there some adults were t...

Hi, Karen. I'm not an expert or anything but I would be wary of extracting teeth from a growing child - unless they're something like baby teeth that won't come out. But if they are the child's second teeth surely crowding is a sign that the arches are too small for the number of teeth; not that the...

Thanks amandajane. But I don't know, aside from the wonky bite, my teeth are a bit yellow, a bit crooked and a bit decayed underneath - I wasn't great at dental care when I had my brace on in my teens. However, even though I'm not in this for appearance sake it's still nice to get a complement. Read...

The story so far…

It’s been a good while since my first post on these boards. To begin with I went straight to the orthognathic forum as I’ve been advised about the need for jaw surgery in the past; since then I’ve been tied up with a few other commitments. So hopefully now I can get back to posting and to begi...

Been busy of late so haven't (but should have) made time to get back to the forum. Oh well, better late than never, I suppose. I certainly will bring up the possibility of an NHS referal when I see my dentist - I take it your dentist is the first port of call when getting the ball rolling on ...
