I actually went a long time before lying down flat while sleeping, lol.
Like...a month or so. I think I was finally able to lie flat without an increase in head pressure a week or so after my jaw was unwired.

The protein shakes my dad got me were alright tasting. He just got me regular vanilla, but I'd mix it with whatever ice cream flavor I wanted, and created a 500-calorie milkshake. So if anyone here doesn't like the taste of their drink, try mixing it with ice cream to add more flavor to it.

Thank you so much for your post! I, luckily, have a rather high pain tolerance and I only have two wires on the bottom that have to be removed. I was mainly worried about the novacain shots because I have never had it done while awake.

That's a very disheartening thing for a surgeon to say. I had surgery a month ago to correct an overbite, and my surgeon assured me that she would make sure my face looked good as well. The only reason I got a sliding genioplasty was to "harmonize" my face and make my profile flow better. ...

My dad took the day of and the day after off, and then it was the weekend so everyone was around for the next 2 days. I was able to give myself the medications fine the first day I was home. I got anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and codein in liquid form. I didn't have to take the codein at all, I to...

I'm very happy with my results so far too. Although my face is still a little swollen, the lower part of my face is longer and my chin comes forward more so that it is not blending in with my neck anymore. My profile has improved a lot, but I still look like me. I had my surgery done by Dr. Pulver a...

Having chin wires removed post-op?

Okay, I'm not exactly sure what they're called but when I had my upper, lower, and sliding genio 5 weeks ago, they put a wire in both sides of my chin (not entirely sure why, but I'm guessing it has to do with the genio) which is scheduled for removal on June 4. Apparently its a simple procedure tha...

What helped me get through my surgery was (I know this will sound a little bad) thinking about how much attention I'll be receiving. You'll be pretty helpless the first few days, so your family will probably be on your every beck and call. (my parents gave me xmas bells to ring if I needed something...

Well I was wired shut for 3 1/2 weeks, but as soon as they removed the wires and splint, and slapped elastics on me I was able to eat soft foods.

What exactly did you have done? It sounds like you had to have surgery to fix an injury.

I suppose you could do the 2nd option first, then do the 1st. But it is a lot easier to just have the lower jaw surgery and genio done at the same time. Otherwise you would have to go to through the recovery process two full times instead of one fell-swoop.

What my surgeon did is made the genioplasty a "we'll see what happens" type of case. They went in and did everything they had to do (move my upper molars up and my lower jaw forward) then looked at how my profile looked. Turns out that they still needed to move it forward, so they did. But...

That sucks about the throwing up. I was throwing up a lot when I was in the hospital too. (I am very thin, so my body can't handle anesthesia that well) But lucky for you, you were only banded. I was completely wired shut, and just yesterday I was de-wired and am now wearing rubber bands. I too had ...

I was wired shut for 3 1/2 weeks (was de-wired yesterday!), and you definitely are gonna hate the "furryness". It particularly bugged me because I'm a clean freak when it comes to my teeth. But after a while you'll get used to it. I used a water pik fine started about 2 days after my surge...

I was wheeled into the operating room at 8 am and I didn't leave my bed until around 4-5 pm. After that I was able to get up to go to the bathroom, walk around, ect for very short periods of time. Going back into my casual clothes to leave the hospital took longer than it usually does because you ru...

I had the upper, and a genioplasty done nearly 3 weeks ago to correct an overbite and receded lower jaw. The first week, I was very swollen and numb. Every few days I noticed a decrease in swelling and numbness. Right now I am still a bit swollen (however I am 100 lbs normally, so I probably appear ...
