straight into ortho?
I have a collapsing bite with skeletal instability. I also don't have back molar support & one molar was extracted due to a fracture. One side of my face is actually beginning to collapse due to lack of support & mis-use of facial muscles. I just need to stabilize somewhere until I can get m...

Re: Underlying instability is causing havoc....
Sorry, another afterthought. How closely do you work with your DDS & PT's? Do they communicate with each other concerning your progress. Do they speak with each other following all of your adjustments? How are they kept on the same page.....

Re: Underlying instability is causing havoc....
It sounds like you were able to form a great cohesive team. How did you ever find them? Do you have to travel? I seem to be having trouble finding my footing in this regard. I've had 2 teams such as yours in the past but there was a lack of communication with both of them. There are so few DDS's who...

Re: Underlying instability is causing havoc....
Hi Jill, I had an afterthought. You commented that you experienced TMJ. I'll experience facial muscle spams following discontinuation of a dental orthotic but it always seems to resolve. Since I no longer have an occlusion to speak of I have visible facial distortion since I don't presently have bal...

Re: Underlying instability is causing havoc....
Hi Jill, Thanks for your post & suggestions. I know there are few ALF practitioners & everything depends on the skill of your providers. With my unique structural issues I've found the most highly skilled are left confused. It's great you were able to find a progressive team to help you. I'm...

Underlying instability is causing havoc....
My situation began with an upper splint by dentist #1 that forced my jaw back when it should have been brought forward. This caused significant rotational orthopedic issues. Dentist #2 attempted to correct the situation with a lower device and this caused visible cranial & orthopedic torsion. Af...

SURGERY FOLLOWING FAILED SPLINT THERAPY/OPEN BITE?
I'm a very complex patient who will eventually require ortho and corrective jaw surger for a bite that has totally collapsed. I've been in a splint (8 months) that has forced my jaw joints back creating a significant open bite. I've recently been told by other docs that the splint was a mistake whic...

Retruded chin with difficulty breathing.....
I've read about folks who have developed retruded chins following ortho and many other procedures. Mine was caused by splint therapy. In the event you develop difficulty breathing because of this does it correct itself? When I begin ortho this may change things again as well as orthognathic surgery....

Jaw Surgery with MUSCULAR issues....
I have a very complicated case. Due to a skeletal abnormality and a tremendous amount of destabilizing dental work throughout the years my bite finally collapsed. The first indication of this was pain and muscular swelling on one side of my face. It was a very long and difficult diagnosis as you can...

distraction osteogenesis of lower jaw
Does anyone have any knowledge (or has had) a distraction osteogenesis procedure to correct a retruded lower jaw? The jaw is cut and pulled apart one millimeter at a time tricking the body into believing it has to heal the area. As the area forms new bone the jaw is pulled out another millimeter. An...
