Re: Sarahlynn's journey in braces

Way too long since I've updated - but that's what happened when I stopped being super self conscious of everything about my braces - life carried on and time has been flying! I've been in elastics for several months now (class II elastics), maybe close to 6 months, I can't remember. I know I'm close...

It's been too long since I logged and updated - I haven't even taken pics in a couple months! I really need to though so that I can see for myself how things are coming along. I'm happy with my progress, I'm 5 months in and my pesky canines are both ALMOST right where they need to be in the ...

WOW your teeth are looking amazing!! I haven't logged on here in probably 2 months at least and I had to go back and look at your original pics because I knew right away that your teeth look so much different - congrats on your progress!

Welcome and congrats on starting your journey! I totally know what you mean when you felt like you were chewing like your grandpa's dog on your first day of braces - I felt the same way! I was eating dinner with my husband and had my head kinda tilted (as to somehow direct the food to the back molar...

If you want them now you'll likely still want them (and probably need them more) 10 years from now. You're still young and won't look out of place with them - no one is too old. I play soccer with my braces on and it's not a problem at all. About the social factor, I think you're magnifying it in yo...

I didn't have many people to base personal reviews on either, or even online reviews for that matter. When I first worked up the courage to go to the dentist after so long I went with a guy who had his own practice for a long time. Their website was very information too. I even emailed the dentist a...

YES taking the closeup pictures of my mouth beforehand just solidified that I was doing the right thing. I was always repulsed by seeing a "normal" smile of mine, it wasn't a pretty sight - but that's all changing now! And I love it! 8)

I was braced June 11 2009 and still can't bite into things directly. My front teeth have always been the most consistently sore this whole time. In the past week or two I have just begun trying to bite into softer foods and it's still awkward. I don't even try it in public because I'm worried about ...

I don't know the answer to the veneer question. But I did want to warn you that you'll continue to have mixed emotions through getting them on - at least I did. I was so nervous but a couple weeks before they went on I was reading everyone's stories here and when it came to my brace day I really was...

As everyone is saying - it WILL get better!!! I felt exactly the same as you when my first went on. I felt ugly and ridiculous and didn't want anyone, stranger or friend, seeing me in them. My self confidence was low before braces because I didn't like the way my teeth looked (I had crowding and gap...

Hi and welcome! Congrats on making the decision! I was so nervous about it all too and like everyone else, I'm now SO happy I'm doing this. I've hated my teeth for many years and have been very self conscious about them. Now that I am nearly 4 months in and they are already dramatically improved my ...

I now eat just about everything that I ate pre-braces. I still can't bite directly into things unless they're really soft, but I cut everything up. Sandwiches are so annoying to cut up, but I still do it. I just can't cut everything out, I love food too much

Definitely normal. Soreness and tooth sensitivity will come and go frequently. There are days where certain teeth are way too sore to chew on.

You're definitely not too old. I'm 29 and 3 months into my braces. I've read that the older you are your teeth may move a bit slower, but everyone's teeth move at a different rate. I've seen progress pics from many people our age on here with pretty fast movement. Treatment time varies, but it's pro...
