Re: New here, thinking about upper jaw surgery..=)

I agree with Super Smile, some great key points to keep in mind. Please discuss your concerns with your Mom and get her opinions first. Who knows, she may not ask for a dime of repayment. No need to suffer with this pain any longer and postponing will only create more problems with your bite and bon...

Re: Any having or have had surgery in Dallas?

I did not have the surgery but went through all the motions only to find out I had chronic Lyme disease and was advised by my Lyme doc to postpone the surgery so I could treat the Lyme first. I saw Dr. W in Dallas, though, and spent 2 months on the phone between his office and my insurance company. ...

Re: Dr. Wolford (Texas) expects full payment before surgery

Yes, that amount out-of-pocket is ridiculous but in our area of Texas there aren't many surgeons attempting this degree of surgery. I lady who used Dr. W and was very happy with her results told me he had many years of extended schooling plus he calculates many factors in his price, i.e. specialized...

Starzz, yes, and the techs just try to make it till noon so they can be outta there for the weekend, they don't dare try to be helpful since the ortho's not there. It's getting to where you can't find a dentist, doctor, eye doctor, or any medical physician open on Friday's anymore. If you are ill or...

This is my 2nd go around in braces but issues still the same with sharp wires. I have a medical condition called Sjogren's where my mouth is dry and with braces it's awful, makes my lips dry and cracked and my mouth sometimes feels like I have thrush. The sharp wires add to the problem. I rinse with...

I have TMJ and a neuro-muscular condition that causes clenching. My braces have aggravated this condition, especially since I have a band on the back molar that is capped. My brain recognizes the band as a stimulus therefore the clenching increases. I was on the internet last night, unaware I was cl...

I did not have such good luck with Aetna. They did not offer an in-network provider within my area. My out-of-network OS sent in a pre-estimate letter with diagnosis codes and charges for each procedure being done. Aetna greatly reduced the fees based on Reasonable & Customary. I appealed and go...

AF, I thought TJR was common on this forum but maybe they were talking about other things, I'm not too savvy with all the jargon. I was scheduled to have Lefort I, coronoidectomy, and the corrections necessary for sleep apnea. With my other medical issues and age I am pleased to be getting a 2nd opi...

Rachesi, a sleep study is necessary to tell if you are having apneas during your sleep. It could be obstructive, central, or mixed apnea. I'm no expert but I saw over 10 physicians before one of them ordered a sleep study. My symptoms were sleeping more than usual, 14-16 hours a day. I had trouble d...

Anyone used Dr. Pedro Franco in Dallas, TX for TJR?

If you have used Dr. Franco in Dallas for TJR please let me know if you were happy with your results. I made an appt. with an OS in Shreveport, LA and found out he is trying to get away from TJR so I am now scheduled to see Dr. Franco on September 1st for consult. I was scheduled to have surgery 9/8...

You have plenty of time to have the TJR but you will heal quicker the younger you are thus probably less complications. I had braces at 45 and now a 2nd time at 57 and I can tell you I have days that make me want to go have them taken off. But, I can't have the TJR w/o them and since I'm this near m...

Braceschris, thanks for your concern. Yes, I will secure my records from Dr. Wolford's office. His office manager called me within 5 minutes of my making my appt. with the new OS. She had been contacted by my othodontist that I was changing doctors. My husband and I are nearing retirement age and th...

Hello everyone. I may have a solution to getting my surgery paid by my insurance. I spoke to my orthodontist yesterday about being unable to pay $38,000 to Dr.Wolford for TJR. He totally understood the hardship. He referred me to another OS that is just over the state line in Shreveport, LA, about t...

If you have doubts go for a 2nd opinion, that's why insurance companies allow them. Each doctor is unique in their plan for your outcome. My surgeon took in to concern how the arthritic bone loss affected my chin, neck, mouth and cheeks (the whole picture). Some OS's are plastic surgeons as well and...
