Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

I was 70 when i had my braces put on. It was the second time round, the first being when i was about 14.I had an unpleasant relationship with my ortho. then, as he was a bully. The treatment in those days was not nearly as thorough as now, as just a selection of teeth were banded (no brackets in tho...

Re: Could you watch someone with braces?

I would watch perfectly happily and I wouldn't be put off by regular braces. I would just think of you as someone who is doing a normal thing. By all means make a joke of your braces at the start and then ignore them. I wore all metal and it was a year before some regular contacts even noticed them....

I was 70 when I had my braces put on and had no problems with people accepting them. I know it is easier for a man, as we don't show our teeth as much when smiling, but it was 12 months before someone whom I met almost every day, noticed that I had them, even though I went for all metal. After some ...

Power chains are powerful. I wore one for three days. After the first day, the upper lateral incisor had slid back behind the canine - the place from which we had been pulling it for nine months. My ortho removed the chain the next day and didn't even say "oops". I hope you have better luc...

Some molar bands have a small button on the inner surface. This is for attaching elastics or wires, if they are needed. Feel with your tongue, or ask your ortho, to find out if you have these, as they can be very uncomfortable as they rub against your tongue. If you have these, ask whether they are ...

Hi, Psych Braces. No, it wasn't a typo. I was 70 when my braces went on. The family thought I was mad, but my dentist's encouragement pushed me over the hump and I went ahead. I've had approving comments from dentists since then about the state of my teeth and I'm sure thst I made the right decision...

I'm replying because I have some hope that I may be able to assist those who are thinking of going ahead with braces. It was my second time around; the first being in the1940s. That experience was brutal and I was apprehensive, but my teeth were wearing and I couldn't clean, because of crowding. I a...

Your archwire may have slipped around so that it is poking out of the back of the bracket tube one side and coming out of the tube on the other. To prevent it from coming out, it may be necessary to slide it back, so that it has the same length protruding on each side. This happened to me a number o...

If your bite is uncomfortable, if you cannot clean between your teeth, if your teeth detract from your appearance in a significant way, or if you suffer from some forms of jaw pain, then orthodontic treatment may well be warranted, whatever your age. My braces went on when I was 70 and I have not re...

Ellen
Would you please give me the name of the cleaner that you use? Is it effective?
I need a cleaner and my ortho didn't give me any advice other than to clean them with toothpaste and a brush.

I needed bands on two teeth with crowns, as the brackets wouldn't stick. That was five years ago and the crowns are still there, with no problems.
I hope it will go as well for you.

Is it possible for your ortho to put ligs around the scews to keep your tongue away? It works with the buttons on the lingual side of molar bands, so it might do the same here

Jaswi. The hardware that you have around your molars is quite different from the simple bands that I had. can you explain?
A great result. Congratulations.

If you get the back of your thumbnail against the end of the wire, you should be able to push it back to where it belongs. I had to do that, frequently. The wire slides through the slot in the brackets. After all. that is what it did in order to end up in the wrong place.
